    I would agree with those of previous comments. However, I see where OP is coming from, I suppose if plans were already made to have a modded truck you could buy a base model like everyone suggests and buy mods with money saved.

    Probably the same reason a '98 S-10 has automatic headlights and Tacomas do not even offer as an option.

    Oh noez.

    So yeah, if none of the things above matter and all you want to do is build an off road rig from a no-frills stock 4x4, then stay with SR5. But if you want the seats, skewp, color matching, lockers, LSD, and or any of the other gadgets and goodies found on the TRD models, then go the TRD route and the money won't be wasted.
