Been there done that...one of the worst mistakes I made was getting a brand new performance clutch installed at a cheap, hole in the wall transmission shop. They put it in backwards and it was toast within a few weeks, and I needed my truck back asap so I took into Toyota. They put a stock clutch in it and did a great job but bent me over on the cost, to the tune of about $3k. So I was out the money I spent on my performance clutch, the money I spent on the initial install, and $3k for a stock clutch in the end lol. I got a small amount back from the first shop but they were assholes about it so I had to eventually let it go.

That was 3 years ago and it still haunts me today when I think about it

So far, the worst thing I have done was taking the truck up Cumberland pass. It would have been fine if it were only the truck, but I also happened to be towing our travel trailer. 20 miles of narrow road, switchbacks, huge rocks and potholes to avoid. Being stubborn in not wanting to backtrack, and wanting to take roads we haven't taken before (not to mention having a better map that might tell me that it was dirt lol) made for some butt clenching moments on the "road". My biggest worry was actually having an ATV come around the corner at speed and not be able to avoid my big slow ass taking up essentially the whole path. Made it, and that's all that matters though! I was too busy driving and being a little nervous to take pictures of said peril...should have asked my wife who kept taking scenery pictures!

Cab mount chop.... refers to cutting the cab mount and welding a new plate in place so you can run larger tires without them rubbing it

Ditto for me!! I sold my 16' SR5 and bought a 20' TRD OR 2 x 4. I just like the looks of the OR-i.e.-the rims, black fender flares, and no front air dam. Looked at the Sport but not a fan of the hood scoop and nor the rims. But that's why the Tacoma is offered in the SR, SR5, Limited, TRD OR and Sp, Pro and even some other versions here in the southeast..a configuration for everyone.

As for "off road"....that's where my Kubota 850 Sidekick comes into play. Although, they recommend you don't go into water more than 3' deep it can go places I would never take my Tacoma. It has 2-wheel drive, 4-wheel drive (both L and H), locking rear differential, front winch, and power steering. Major con: it only can go 42 mph.

Decided to retrofit my headlights. Looked good for about 5 months, then the rain came and it all went to shit. Ended up with Morimoto XBs at the end of the day but it cost a pretty penny.

Worst thing to happen to my truck? I put a spacer lift on it after reading all the bad reviews. I took it off couple months later. And yes, I have apologized to my truck many times and promised to never treat it like that again.

Check out my build thread (Beginning of Money Pit)
    Not regearing sooner.

After I added full steel skids, rtt and bedrack, front bumper and winch, I told myself that my truck would be fine and still drive decently with the 255 85 16s. What I thought was ok turns out was shit.

I did 5.29s, but 35s on, and the truck is actually fun to drive. It moves. Best thing I've done. Fixes every shift issue.

Worst decision I made for my Tacoma???
My first one was a 2wd Prerunner, where we went to the dealership and bought it cause I just came back from my second deployment to Iraq and had some money to burn and just bought it.
Numerous times getting stuck in places I shouldn't of gotten stuck and yyyyyears later....I finally upgraded to a TRD OR haha...lessons learned.
    Cry once....buy once.

Easy answer for me. I should have started my vehicle buy back process after six months of ownership instead of waiting until my 2016 Sport was almost a year old.

No hard feelings though. I have now
vowed never to buy the first year of a newly released/redesigned vehicle (bought my 2016 in August of 2015). 2020 order arrives in a couple of weeks.

Worst thing is not getting it sooner and watched it on the lot sit there waiting for me.
