Less than a month after I got my truck the gate was stolen. A shop quoted me $2200. I laughed at them and walked out. Got one off cl for 50.

You could pound out most of it, but you'll always see the creases. I'm not sure if a pdr guy could work with that or not.

PDR likely will not work. Metal is stretched.
    Need a new tailgate.

I would not back into bushes ever to park. Doing that does scratch your paint and any moisture/berries/bug guts/bird shit they hold against your paint for long periods will cause paint damage.

That doesn't seem like a very lucrative deal to me. $100-$350 to steal a tailgate then go through the hassle of trying to sell it on craigslist? Meh.

In what world does it cost 100-350 to steal a tailgate?

I could probably walk outside and have one in an hour, no cash out of my pocket.

Huh? I meant who would steal a tailgate then go through the hassle of trying to sell it to a bunch of freaks on craigslist for a mere $100-$350. What did you think I meant?

    Have at it man.

I would think the guys that are stealing them get a lot more out of them and have some sort of chop shop connection where they overcharge insurance companies. Maybe that is assuming too much intelligence on their part.

If I needed a tailgate, I would buy one for cheap on craigslist.

    OHHH!!! My bad. Totally misread...

And if you're a drug addict, turning 15 minutes of your time into $50 seems like a no brainer...

Yeah, but it's not like you can just grab it all stealth like and slip it in your pocket haha. I guess people steal all kinds of crazy crap for all kinds of crazy reasons haha. I mean, people actually drill holes in gas tanks and steal fuel. I see your point haha.

Is $300 for a tailgate a good deal? I found one on OfferUp. Still has all the hardware and would just be a swap out. Wonder if i could get anything for mine to offset the cost?

I just got 5 quotes on my 2017 tailgate. It has similar damage. For a new tailgate, labor, and materials, estimates averaged around $1200. I'm sure you can get it done a lot cheaper, especially if you aren't near a major city. I would buy one online and have it painted. Could probably get it done for about $500-$600.
