Looks like it doesn't even have glass. I can get the cap painted for $350. But now it will be even cheaper. A friend of mine told me he can get me 40% off sherwin Willams automotive paint :)! I figured that's pretty good paint for a cap. I'll have to ask my painter

I would use PPG match paint from your local body shop. They would have color swatches to match to a “T”. But, I have a slight case of OCD.....o_O

haha I know what you mean! I probably shouldn't have bought one. But I couldn't pass it up. Just means I'll have to work a some OT shifts to recover from this.

I'll be using DuPont paint. My painter recommend it since they are about the only ones that go by Vin # to match :)

Saturday when I picked it up I found out my factory tonneau cover bed rails will need to be replaced. I can only get 3 out of 4 clamps to work. The shell sits on 2 of the little arms that sick out near the tailgate. The clamp for the passenger side front doesn't line up for the tonneau cover bolt :frusty:. So I'm rolling with 3 clamps currently which would still work. Maybe I can put a thicker weather seal around the bottom of the cap to prevent from sitting on top of two little arms.

You can unscrew those little arms out.

Here is a picture what it looks like under those plastic rails. Yes you’ll have to remove your cap. Then pull up on those plastic rails. Then you’ll see those two screws to remove that post.

There should be a tag riveted to the interior of the shell with the manufacture date and serial number. Call or email Leer with the serial number and they can tell you what you have (my guess is 100r), what options it came from the factory with, etc.

I figured it was the basic 100R top as well which is fine for me. My guess is it cost around $1800 with tax since its got the Thule arms/rails and inside led light. Going to a local dealer to see.I figured the serial number would be stamped on the tag instead of a bar code sticker. Thanks for the info man.

You can order new Leer keys on eBay for about $7 for a set of two. Just look at the code stamped on the lock and type it into eBay search, there are not that many different codes for leer. Not exactly the most secure locks.

I think you went the right way. In fact. I’m jealous you even found that cap. That’s a unicorn right there. Especially for 600 dollars! Wow.

So the Mrs. keeps saying I need a cap, always around Christmas time when we’re lugging bags and boxes of presents. Came across this thread and am wondering if the OP has painted his excellent deal of a cap? If so, what was the final price to paint? Could you post a pic or two? Thanks in advance
