I have a 2017 OR and have had it for 18 months now. Yesterday I was traveling from NC to MD on 95. It was some kind of hot around 97 degrees. I decided to use my AC for the first time after two hours of usage I said when is it going to get cold in here. It was just barley cool enough. I expected more from a AC unit. I guess I can live with it because it is rarely that I use my AC. Is anyone else experiencing the same thing ?

It was over 100 degrees last week and my AC cools the truck off in minutes, any auto shop should be able to check your system- you should get it checked out.

Yeah, I live in Texas where we've already had quite a few 100+ degree days and my truck has no issues cooling it down. In fact I have to turn the fan down and the AC up some after a bit because it gets too cold. I think you might want to bring the truck in for a little warranty check up.

I turned mine on for the first time a few days ago and I was impressed with how quickly it cooled down. I'd definitely have that looked at if I were you.

Obvious question, but did you have the temp to cold? I had a manual climate control in my old truck. One hot summer day, I noticed it was unusually warm. Thought I had a leak in the AC line. Then looked down and the temp was set to middle. Oops.

Separate question, how in the world did you not use AC in NC during the summer? That's where I grew up. No way I could make it through one summer without AC.

And for the record, my AC works great. 100+ deg here and I could freeze everyone out of the truck if I wanted.

The AC in my truck kicks it into high idle, and because of the mechanical fan it's LOUD at a stoplight.

No issues with cooling power though.

The AC in our Taco makes my wife bring a blanket with her. The only issue I have ran into is I shut the truck off with it set to max AC and when turned it back on even after adjusting off of max AC I couldn't turn off the AC. I adjusted off max AC turned the truck back off waited a few minutes and started it up again. The AC was on when I started it but I was able to turn it off. I have only had this happen the one time, but since I'm sure to try to shut the AC off prior to shutting off the truck, or minimize my use of max cool.

The AC is adequate in my truck, not good, not bad but does the job.

It was 106 according to the "outside temp" this weekend. My AC only took a few minutes to cool down. When it's really hot, try bumping it all the way down to LO.

There was a lot of humidity in the air the last few days in the DMV area. It's rained almost everyday, more like monsoon rains. It's very difficult for the A/C to get that cool. Those of you in the Midwest, the great white north and in TX the air has less humidity in it, thus easier to cool.

I've noticed this as well in my truck and my other vehicles. It was not cooling very well. Lots on condensation though dripping so it's working overtime.

I used my AC for the first time earlier this week, and it was about the same as yours. It's possible I was just overheated (spent the entire day working in a part of the building that made the 95-degree heat outside feel like air conditioning).

The next time it's hot enough for me to think about using AC I'll try it again. If it still doesn't seem to work well, I'll have to call the dealer.

Mine throws ice cubes:thumbsup: But seriously, if you don't want to mess around with the dealer pick up a recharge kit for $30 and try it. If that doesn't help then you'll know that you will have to visit the shop for endless hours and hours and hours to get it fixed.:angrygirl:

    OME and worth every penny.
Ut should cool quickly even with high humidity, get it checked. It's likely you have a small leak.

edit: above poster makes a good point. If it has leaked the dealer isn't going to try to find it unless terrible and you're going to wind up charging periodically after warranty anyway.

Don't over charge! Just take it in if you feel like it's not working correctly. Seriously, mine has not been working 100% either with all the rain.

I noticed mine takes entirely too long to cool the truck down as well, our 4runner takes a couple of minutes and it’s ice cold

Not trying to be a smart ass but that is very bad advice. A recharge kit will add refrigerant but you will have no idea on what pressures the system is running at.

To the OP. Take it in for some warranty work. The Tacoma had a problem with some of the evaporators leaking. You probably have a low charge.
