Front Aluminum bumper by Relentless Fab. Smittybuilt Winch Complete set of skids by ATO TC UCA's Fox Ext. Travel Front Reservoirs.
Got a full set of ATO skids (well minus the gas tank skid) that have been sitting on my garage floor for, well many weeks now. I'm having a hard time really justifying putting that much weight on my truck considering I don't even have hardly a scratch on my stock skid.

I see both sides of the argument but I don't think its really a matter of quality it's a matter of what the products were designed for and how they are actually used. Light weight is king in offroad, it just is so the lightest weight anything is better than something heavier up until the point it fails.

If it never fails you were always better off with something lighter, if it does fail you exceeded its design. If your plan is to not properly negotiate obstacles and you just want to haphazardly smash your way through things then building for that is ideal. However the lighter truck with thinner armor and the more competent driver will always prevail.

I think its a bad argument to say, I don't know how to drive my truck properly and when I ran into a boulder it dented my skid plate, so therefor the armor is poor quality, when the guy behind you with no armor drove the same trail without a scratch.

Its like using a screwdriver for a prybar and being pissed off when the screwdriver bends. Use things properly for what they are intended and 9 out of 10 times you will be fine.

Looney or Adrenaline junkies? Eh both for me. The slow trail stuff doesn't do it for me. The high speed stuff hits the spot. Plus you learn all about suspension tuning, valving, spring rate and more.

The weight thing is another issue I don't get. People complain about the weight of armor...my full set adds about 350lbs to the truck, with about 100lbs. of deletion (stock hitch/bumper, other misc tiny things). That's 250lbs. additional.

That's one fat guy riding shotgun. Still miles under GVWR, although you are going to lose a little mileage and payload. But that's just the pay to play.

I don't think most people are ramming anything on purpose. I dunno how it plays out out west, but over here trails are often wet/muddy/etc., and the line you pick is NOT the one the trail will let you stay on. Mud and ruts have a tendency of putting you where they want you, regardless of your plans. You can either turn around or endure.

Everytime I've cracked something hard, it's because low traction and/or corkscrew effects threw me around and there was no going forward otherwise. The metal is there in case, not specifically for.

My words taken out of context, to be fair. Just because you don't get the concept of finding the balance between being strong, yet relatively light weight, doesn't mean our philosophy is flawed. It is backed by the knowledge of a world champion rock crawler, who has wheeled even in your neck of the woods several times.

    http://youtu.be/PlD_3nBXmdM

No pictures....it didn't happen. J/K As far as I know, all of these so-called problems were never brought directly to our attention for us to address in the proper way. But I do know the first run of front skids were made out of the wrong material, but bending around a front diff is exaggerated a bit. Since we have sold hundreds without issue. Sliders flexing is due to a few first sets not having gussets, but in jhodge's case they were installed improperly without notching the pinch weld as required since that designed intended on mounting them as high as possible for the most ground clearance. Our current design is the best out there. And as for fire931, he is making competing products, so take what he says for what it is.

To clarify, all of our skids are 3/16" now instead of 7GA. But you're right, only about .008 difference!

Yes they do! My only body damage came from a tree branch that was on the ground that got rolled up by my tire and pushed into my bedside!

    Well said.

Your trails are a lot different to traverse than out west. It is harder to stay on a line - I'll give you that. As for everything else, I guess we can agree to disagree! :D

But in all seriousness, we do realize that our current line of products may not be for everyone. However, we are a dynamic company, always striving to be at the forefront in design, quality, service, etc. It is hard to make a "one-size-fits-all" product that satisfies the needs of every single person, which is why have some new product lines coming out soon....so stay tuned.

    Here's a sneak peak though:

And finally, thanks to the OP and to all of our other customers and friends for the kind words.

I have no dog in this fight, But regarding this comment, what difference does it make as to how high up they are mounted? If they flex at one elevation on the frame, they will still flex if mounted 1" higher.

From what I know they were claiming the sliders flexed into the body, but in reality it was the pinch weld because it wasn't notched. But we did admittedly fail to install gussets on a few sets, even though we've sold sliders with gussets for over 15 years!

I want to add I have no allpro products so I'm not here to defend them as a company. I just think the term quality is being misused to explain a product being operated outside of its design parameters.

It is possible to damage 3/16 steel as well so if you run your truck into a rock at 60 mph and dent your 3/16 steel skidplate is that skid poor quality and now you need to buy a skidplate that 1/2 steel? I guess I just don't see an end to the argument if thats the case.

Anything will fail at some point, especially if you ask it to do more than it was intended. I say if your an extreme rockcrawler your not in a production ifs tacoma anyway, of course everyone has their opinion of what extreme is.

I personally Have Allpro products and I have had zero problems. My sliders have a few gouges and a ton of scratches, but no body damage. They are extremely close the the pinch weld and maybe that could be looked at as a bad thing??? I don't see it as a problem, notch 1/4" out and enjoy the slider taking the damage instead of your door! I slammed My truck down pretty hard on my driver side slider and it would have left a serious dent if not for their sliders. The allpro rear leafs might be the best on the market when it comes to off road use and daily driving. I believe customer service makes the company, so far customer service has been excellent! Thanks Allpro!

Slimwood Shady's ARB bumper was bent while being shipped to his house and bent pretty good. i know shipping companies arent the best with handling packages but damn, shouldnt a bumper that strong be able to survive being shipped?

ive also dented a ATO front skid plate, but thank god it was isntalled or i would probably need a new engine now
