Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
Stop relying on a stupid gauge for fuck's sake. FIll up till the pump stops. Clear a trip meter. Drive for a few days and fill up again. Take the 2nd fill up's gallons input and divide mileage by the # of gallons you put in.

Now you have real fuel mileage. Actual distance. Actual fuel consumed. Those stupid gauges use trending and stats on the motor.

Do you need to know, or care?
I'm guessing you do short trips, cold engine, no freeway driving. If that's the case, 11mpg is about right.

    Why so salty denny?

By the way, got any proof to the fuel pump claims? I've crushed miles in many vehicles and ran them all to empty all the time and never replaced fuel pumps. Anecdotal... but what you got?

When you hit "zero miles to empty," there are still 3+ gallons in the tank as a "reserve." So a fill up/top off at that point would be ~18 gallons. 270/18 = 15 mpg, which sounds about right for city driving in SF. Also, as that brand new motor and drive train loosens up over the next few thousand miles, your mileage should improve somewhat.

My gas mileage didn't start to improve till about 2,500 miles or so.Give it time you should see around 17-19 mpg. I'm getting around that now but it was shitty in the beginning,I was getting better gas mileage in my Tundra believe it or not.

If its anything like mine between 500 and 600 miles you will gain1.5 mpg then at 1200 to 1500 miles you will gain another 1.5 mpg. On mine it went 15 mpg to 18 mpg combined driving but highway couldnt get to 20 mpg highway. Changed to middle grade gas and my highway has gone 21.5 mpg best if i go no faster than 65 mph and can get a consistant speed fo over 20 miles. This is with only Chevron gas in the crappy fuel state of California which has custom blends for winter and summer gas. Stop ang go city driving is a killer in these trucks. If i use the power button i loose 1.5 mpg highway. V6 automatic trd 4x4 offroad. Stock drivetrain.

This is exactly the answer I
    Was lookin for. I did
Not realize we had that many gallons in reserve. Now
    I know I far I can really
Push it before I have to pump!

You really think that Toyota programmed the range calc to take you through the last drop of fuel? Pretty sure there is a gallon or more left at zero.

I just made an edit to my post, so your quote has an older version, but the idea is the same. P. 512 in my owners manual describes the low fuel warning light and states the remaining fuel at that point.

This /\ your engine is still breaking in, I had this problem with my '15 when new w/ 7miles on the odo. I was getting 12 mpg, by the time I had 10 tanks through I started to climb up to 18-20mpg. However I do have a heavy foot

Sorry for such a dumb question then. So what is the point of the tank average fuel economy and the eco app if its so inaccurate? What does it actually read?

I use the fuelly app, I enter in the mileage, and gas added to the tank, it tracks it for me.
