What's your 6MT Engine Oil Temp while Towing and under normal driving conditions?

I noticed this today as well on my truck. With other vehicles, I've found the opposite to be true. The coolant normally rises faster than oil temp. I'm wondering how accurate the sensor and the PID calcs are.

    Accurate.

It is the thin oil and large coolant capacity. And, is a very good thing since we only need to consider the coolant guage.

How accurate is it? With my truck showing 280 degrees on a simple climb on a cold day I remain unconvinced until further testing. Something is not right whether it be the sensor, the software or an engine component failure. Based upon what other members are reporting with automatics, they normally don't see oil temps over 220. I have to ask, what oil temps are 6MT owners seeing under normal driving conditions as well as when towing up a steep grade on a hot day?

I'm speaking in general. I don't have a clue what is up with yours. Actual oil temp or bad sensor. In general, I trust sensors or else we'd all be fucked with just about any consumer good.

Actually I have no clue ( nor do I care) what temp the 0-20 synthetic is. That's on Toyota engineers. Wait... actually I don't care what my coolant temp is either!
When I had my Tacoma, I pulled a lot of trailers on hot and cold days and, using the actual truck gauge, never had a over temp issue. Same with my Tundra.
I think some of the problem is people get data but don't understand the thermo principles, nor the oil or coolant properties, and are lost or just wrong trying to figure it out.
I mean @tonered you and I both know there are running temps intermittent temps and max temps. The intermittent and max are for a shorter duration but how long? :notsure: I don't know because I didn't design this system so... I trust the guys who did.

    There is that also.

Even malaise era GMs that had nothing but a speedo and warning lights would run for at least 100k. LoL!

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
Do other temp PIDs (like coolant, atf 1 and 2, intake temp... etc.) seem reasonable? Oil and coolant should be under generic obd, have you tried Torque or another more generic app?

I'm wondering do these even have an actual oil temp sensor, some engines use a "calculated" oil temp rather than an actual sensor.

I have redline 0W20. I’ve used techstream and see between 210-230°f on the freeway running at 65mph/2200RPM just cruising. On hills it goes up to 250-260°F if I remember correctly.

I was wondering the same exact thing. I have been looking for an oil temperature sensor within the service manual and can't find a reference to this sensor anywhere. @Dm93 Where have you seen a reference to calculated oil temps? This very likely could be the case with Tacos and if it is I'd love to see why some trucks calculate out higher than others. Thanks.

Not really any reference but I've ran across vehicles in the shop I work at that I know don't have an oil temp sensor but still have an oil temp pid, usually it will say something like "calculated oil temperature" though.

Hi OP. I only see 180-190°F if the engine is idling. I’ve seen 210-230°F on the freeway and have seen the temp drop steadily once getting off and idling.

Thanks for the clue. It is likely this is the case for Tacos. I believe they may use a different calculation between 6MTs vs autos as people seem to be reading different temp levels between the platforms across varying driving conditions. I would wager to bet that its high for 6MTs but that the actual temp is comparable.

"Calculated oil temp"? Well that's as useful as... tits on a boar.

I have Techstream on my work computer and a Tactix in my center console. I'll try and remember to measure my oil temperature tomorrow afternoon. I have several hills I shift down to 4th to climb.

    25,000 miles on a 2020 TRD off-road MT.

Well most every vehicle has a calculated temp pid for catalytic converters too which seems useless since they use the O2 sensors for monitoring and not temperature.

Thank you. This would be great. In my last run, I dropped the truck into 3rd at 65mph to simulate a tow (unloaded however) up a smallish grade and that's when I hit 280F on a 38 degree day.

Interesting. When I open my oil filler cap after driving I can see a quite a bit of smoke/vapour. Funny thing is when i opened the filler cap on my buddies 19 OR AT, there was none of that, but i have a buddy with 19 sport MT and his shows this smoke/vapour just like mine does. After the tune i noticed less smoke/vapour.

None of my vehicles did that, i find that a bit strange. Although my oil level stays the same between the oil changes.

Positive crank case ventilation? Anyone have an idea if/why a MT truck might show more of this vs an auto? @Mrtacoman88 thanks for sharing.

My truck has done in since brand new, so i doubt its faulty PCV or something. My buddy's MT sport was pretty new when i checked as well. Try it on yours after a drive:) Im curious.
