I will definitely check this out on my next drive. I'm wondering if there is something different on manuals that might cause this.

I wouldn't be overly concerned about crankcase vapors out of the oil cap some engines have more than others, if there's no oil consumption or leaks or other signs of excessive blowby it's fine.

    Another datapoint for you.

45 degrees this am. 78 mph held in 4th gear for 2 miles. Peaked at about 190 from OBD Fusion.

    AT btw.

I just found it very strange that my buddy's 19 OR AT had absolutely none.

I'm still curious if a Toyota tech or someone with a parts diagram could confirm whether or not there's an actual sensor and if there is where it is located.:notsure:

Engine temp and oil type/brand are likely contributing factors to crankcase vapors as well.

We both use Mobil 1 and do our oil changes every 5k miles, with OEM toyota filter. Also we both use 91 octane, he is stock and im tuned. I actually used 91 ever since my truck was brand new, i just tuned about 3 months ago.

I have a 2020 model with the 3.5 and manual transmission with less than 2000 miles and it has the vapor just as you describe. My 2008 has none.

Thanks for the input. Seems like its normal for all 3rd gen manuals.

Yeah, none of my vehicles did that.

Ha my bad. It looked just like that part though, front/lower part of engine, but visible from the top.

I'm glad I found this thread. I've been monitoring my engine oil temp using OBDLink and wondering where that data is coming from..I can't find any reference to a temp sensor either. 2nd Gen 2TR engine w/ 5 spd, I observe 240 - 270 F regularly.. maybe just cause it's a 4 cyl pushing a two ton wind-sail down the hwy. Its not an outrageous temp, I think it's within synthetic oil temperature specs and all..but glad I'm not the only one with seeing those numbers.

Shoot, I just bought the OBD fusion app thinking I would be able to monitor oil temp while I tow my car trailer with my 6MT sport. Looks like the consensus is that oil temp is "calculated"? This wont be very useful while towing.

Even if it’s calculated by Toyota, shouldn’t we trust their PID? I get my reading from the Toyota specific PIDs.

I am sure its good enough for some useful data used by the ECU, but as others noted in this thread earlier I would like to see it verified. Does the ECU throw a light or warning if oil temps get too high?

I would guess the calculated value is monitored to make sure the oil is warm enough for some conditions and not to make sure the oil isn't over heating due to severe duty.

    Trust but verify :)
