Looking for recommendations for undercoating new Tacoma. Fluid film or woolwax seem to be the best options.. but I don't have a sprayer or compressor..How many spray bottles would do the underside? And any tips would be great .thanks, Don

Welcome to TW! Not sure how many cans would be needed for a 4th gen with it being a fully boxed frame if that really makes a difference. I always liked Fluid Film but Cosmoline is another good option and doesn't wash off as easily as FF.

Theres alot of stuff regarding undercoating on the 2nd & 3rd gen subs. I keep it simple, get about 6 cans of cosmoline, a disposeable coverall and 2 plastic rhino ramps to get the truck up a bit and just get 'er dun. Usually once a year, around october before it gets too cold for the cosmoline to work its way into lil gaps. I'm sure fluid film works just fine to.

Fluid Film here, for both my Gen 1 and my Gen 2.

Two cans oughta be enough to do a Tacoma the first time. Later annual or semiannual treatments will likely take only one can.

Remember to spray things like the hitch and the backside of the rear bumper.

I buy six-packs of rattlecans on the Big A.

Fluid Film’s extension nozzle, a long plastic tube with a 360° little brass spray fitting on the end is a useful accessory for getting FF into closed sections, like the inside of chassis rails.

6-8 cans. Fluid film black looks nice but it's messy. Woolwax would be my preference with the whole kit including the long tip sprayer to get into holes in the frame.

I wouldn't do the black again.

I used about half a gallon of fluid film doing it with the sprayer.

Picked up a bunch of Surface Shield. It's easier to apply but it smells fairly unpleasant. None of them smell like roses, but it smells worse than the other products.

Its a manageable process to diy. Put a drop sheet down and wear a tyvek suit.

Menards had the PB Blaster stuff on a good sale before winter, that’s what I went with. Seems to be working well

I do mine with FF under pressure with a gun mussy but it gets into every thing. I would kind of ask around to a couple of shops it maybe be cheaper than buying all the stuff. What ever you do unless it's new is pressure wash it first.

I'm curious if you people are getting just the frame sprayed, or the whole truck?

Rocker panels, doors, fenders, hood, tailgate, box, etc......

The weak spot seems to be the frame. If I spot something with a little rust I sand blast it and repaint. I'm in a fairly heavy salt area so I keep after it. The frame is rust free and black as night it's a twice a year event for me. Ok I admit I have a drive on lift in my garage but it is totally rest free 2011.

I don’t think it’s necessary on the 4th gen. Toyota really beefed this truck and the frame up to prevent corrosion
