Thanks as well! I will have my daughter with me and she is not the biggest hiker. Neither of us has been so we're probably going to do the one that picks-up/drops you off at different points of the trail. There's also an observation tower on the east side of the park I want to check out.

I spent yesterday tooling around the Everglades and found it to be a very interesting place. I was surprised by the variety of ecosystems and wildlife.

Welp, ya’ can’t go to the Everglades without visiting Biscayne N.P. as they are only separated by a 30-40 minute drive.
Biscayne is a diver’s paradise as 90% of the park is underwater!

Rocky Mountain National Park has to be #1 just because it is 60min from the driveway and more hiking than we can likely do in 1 lifetime and the hike up Longs Peak is right there. And camping when the kids were little in Moraine Park campground in the generator free loop was always so quiet and peaceful. And the time my youngest and I camped there and got up to watch the Perseid meteor shower. 1st time I personally saw it “raining fire in the sky”, and old Fall River Road on a bike or in the Taco. Just so much beauty there and so many good times. Each National Park has its own overwhelming beauty and has its own claim to number 1 for its special features, but this one has to be number one for me.

Yes. Lots of memories there. And some humorous ones too over time. we have tried to get to as many of the National Parks as we can - still in progress (work has a nasty habit of getting in the way of our hobbies) and each one is amazing. But this one so close has the memory banks full of good times and good friends.

Yep, I can relate. Yosemite is right around the corner for me and I generally try to get up there 5-6 times a year. Lots of memories there with friends over the years!

Be careful about visiting “as many parks as you can.” It can turn into an obsession… :anonymous:

We made it to Yosemite before the kids were grown and gone. That was a great trip. If health remains good, I would like to make it back someday and see the transition from winter to spring. I hear it is amazing there to watch it all “wake up” from winter to new springtime life.

Dry Tortugas. This is an 1800’s fort built off the coast of Key West, FL. Not only is it an amazing park, but the journey to reach it really adds to the adventure!

Does it count if you can't actually drive the Taco to the park? :D I suppose Key West is close enough. We are headed to Dry Tortuga in April. I'm counting it.

Maybe this was already posted, since I skimmed through this thread, but just in case...

If you're doing the Big 5 in Utah, make the side trip to check out the "Wedge Overlook" about 90 minutes NW of Moab. Not a National Park, but is BLM land. You can camp literally on the edge of the canyon. 30 miles of gravel and dirt roads to an amazing, secluded place that does not get much traffic.
