i went to private school for 8 years and it was the biggest joke. when i moved to ga, my mom tried sticking me in a christian school in 11th grade. that was the biggest group of coke and weed addicts i had seen in a school setting. *note* this school was run by fundamental baptists

Hodge, you see nothing but hypocrites in the world. No one could ever be better or different from you. All you ever do in any of these posts is point out people's weaknesses and hypocrisies.....you seem to have this sickening sense of human failure, that mankind is one big lying cesspool of hypocrites. It's pretty damn depressing and sad.

it was a fact...i have never seen as many druggies in a school population as i did at that christian school. more facts than i've seen in the book they thumped every day. all you do is your posts is point out how jebus' word is the greatest and gays should have the word marriage stricken from their vocabularies, unless speaking about you and your wife.

"you cant teach an old dog new tricks" has been a saying for a reason i see

Wow this is getting good, I had a run in with a church in CA. They always preached doing good deads but never did unless it benefited "their church". They sought out more well to do people I suppose for the 10% tithe? The Bible is too open to interpretation. I try and help out people when I can, but if I don't take care of myself how useful can I be to others? There will always be someone to point out your faults but those same people feel they are beyond reproach. I just don't get it. I like the ones that say "you don't see things as I do, then I guess your just wrong". I've been around the world a dozen times and seen a few things. I guess I'm just going to be wrong in some peoples eyes, right in others and I truly believe the rest don't really care.

    1) Holy Spirit
    2) Kids grow into adults that choose for themselves.
    3) Excellent statement, keyword: choices

Side note; For Christians to develop a great relationship with God, and equip themselves with the tools to minister, they must also study their surroundings.

    4) There are many Scientific facts that prove the Bible.

Our minds are broadened by not only studying what we believe in, but by studying what we don't believe in.

Even though I don't believe in evolution, I still like to study it, which helps me understand why I don't believe in it.

Standing on my foundation of Jesus Christ allows me to withstand any persucution. Many people in this world are persucuted for various things yet have nothing to stand on. Those are the people you need to have compassion for.

I went to a private Christian school too hodgy, and I had a completely opposite experience. I guess we could say we cancel each other out:D

Kinda reminds me of the story of a guy I worked with. He farmed for over 30 years and was a great farmer, His daddy(deceased) always told him there were two groups of people that you could never trust, religous people, and politicians. He was very adament about that and one day when he told me again about his strong belief, I looked back at him and asked if he had ever dealt with any dishonest farmers. He said quickly before thinking, YES! I looked at him and said, "guess I can't trust you anymore". We had/have a good relationship, and it was all taken with a chuckle.

I have forgot why I hit the multi-quote on this one. I guess I would say the answer is no.;) Maybe I was thinking about gun rights or something....:D
    1) Just because the label says church, or Christian, it doesn't mean under the label it's all good. There are many churches/Christians in the world just like that one. There are many that are not.
    2) That's why as a Christian I want to continue to study the Bible. The Holy Spirit within me is my guide.
    3) I don't see you as right or wrong, I see you as my brother, and as Christ loves you, I do too.

I can see hodge's link to harry potter! Something I think about when anyone mentions the bible: the Telephone game. Anyone ever play it? Whatever was said at the beginning of the game, never matches what is "repeated" at the end of the game. The bible could be one big game of telephone. It was originally written long ago (1,000's of years?), and translated through many languages (100's? more?) before reaching English. How can anyone possibly know if the current versions are anything like the original? Anyone that can speak more than one language knows not everything translates well or at all, and sometimes the context changes. So what happened to things that didn't translate properly? Were they "interpreted" into a complete opposite meaning?

And of course all that begs the question of the original source: a book written by a man. And yet man is not perfect, man lies, etc. Who knows if the original bible got it right. How does anyone know the first version of the bible wasn't the world's first fiction novel? It was great story, people started passing it on, next thing you know it developed a following like Star Trek or anything else with followers, conventions, people in costumes, etc.

And really, how true can a book be when it makes claims like Moses parting the Red Sea, Noah building a boat large enough to hold 2 of every animal (and actually gathering all those animals), or Jesus dieing and coming back to lfe?

Maybe I should believe Star Trek too without question. Oh wait... Some of their technology is proven to work or is in use now....

I admit to being an avowed atheist as this point in my life. I suppose if I were to pick a religion; it would be Buddhism.

The rest have no appeal to me really. I read a great quote once "Arguing over who's God is greater is like two children fighting over who has the biggest imaginary friend".

I firmly believe that religion was created simply to give people a moral compass or guideline that could generally be accepted by the masses, as well as to help "explain" things that we don't understand in the universe. Whatever works for the individual and gets a person through their day is fine by me as long as it isn't hurting anyone in the process.

I truly believe that people who have structure in there life and going to church can help depending on the church..but i still dont think it should be followed to a point where it affects other peoples beliefs..generally the laws in the country are pretty simple to understand why we have them..its right..or its wrong and most people get what is right and wrong..but when someones belief differ based on religion, how can we all come to the same conclusion that this is right and what the other religion says is wrong? and make it law

Look Hodge. The same-sex marriage discussion started out as an intelligent discussion until I - and others - stated that our religions influenced our views on the subject. You then clearly and unambiguously attacked over and over again our Religion. You talked about our Savior and holy book in ways that demeaned our religious beliefs. YOU started all this. Unlike others, I don't back down from defending my religion from people like you. Atheism and Nihilism are NOT religions, they are philosophies. Common courtesy in our society dictates that someone's religion should not be attacked the way you have done. Free speech does not mean you have the right to speak hatefully and derisively about another's religion that they have committed their lives to. I am ceasing all discussion of this. I love you and He forgives us both.

you really need to get your stories straight b/c you went the entire time saying that your religion had nothing to do w/ why you didnt want gay marriage...it was b/c of the term "marriage", and now you finally admit that it was religion after all. good to see the flip flopping. seems to me more and more that my beliefs have been right all along. you really throw that term nihilism around like you are a wanna be psychiatrist. my disbelief in god has nothing to do w/ my morals. and if you can say i have no morals, am lazy, and basically have no fucking clue what i'm talking about, then i can pretty much say whatever i want to as well. and apparently i'm not alone in my thoughts as over 22% of the people on this site voted either agnostic/athiest and neither of those are what i voted for. we'll all see who's right when we kick the bucket

You're right, I have hatred in my heart and that is not what I should have. I love you, He forgives us both. I am ceasing all discussion on religion and same-sex marriage. You have my sincerest apologies for any hurt caused by any of my words. I would respectfully request that you not demean my Lord and Savior and his word any further. You win.

I do respect your opinions and beliefs, but there are other religions also that teach morals and values, perhaps differently from christianity, but morals and values nonetheless. My children go to public school, and I would neither expect, nor desire, that they teach my children these things--that is MY job as a parent. I am not raising them christian, but they are both good children who understand right from wrong. I was not raised christian, yet I understand right from wrong. I would also argue that morals and values are, in fact, common sense rules for any large group of people living together in order to assure the continuance and survival of the group rather than necessarily being strictly christian-based. Namaste
