Oops--apparently there were a butt-load of posts that I missed and a bit of an argument. I, in no way, wished to seem argumentative! I just wanted to throw(another of) my two cents into a usually-civil discussion! :)

it wasnt a fight to win anything, but it did get carried away a lil between us. stuff like this is why i stopped posting in this and the same sex thread. you have your beliefs and i have mine. nothing should keep people from talking about the things this site is about.

Apparently, they can be pretty hard-core. My Dad was one for awhile (may still be) before I found him again a few years ago. I don't know that much about it--I googled it and got a little scared, so I try to avaid religious discussions since we probably differ on some things, but he seems normal now! I'm sure its much like other christian religions in that there are varying degrees of, um....attachment to the "rules" amongst people.

hey TWinner, are your kids getting any evolution theory in their school? As a teacher you could help us shed some light on what the mindset is on this in the school system. Thanks for your thoughts TWinner.:D

Very commendable post. I hope that you continue to add your terrific views were you see fit.

Very importantly, I pray your request be adhered to. That request goes both ways also. Both sides of every view on each topic must stay respectable. It's tough, and I get mad at some posts, but usually I walk away then come back with clear thoughts and a true direction with my thoughts.

I was born and raised a catholic but then came to realize the truth. Once my cousin died we starting attending his christian church. God is real, people need to read the bible and know the truth about God. The bible says there will be trials and tribulations in this world just because there is a God doesnt mean everything will be gravy here on earth. He died for you and he loves everyone

Hey Twinner! :D How are you? Haven't been on as much lately and haven't gotten much of a chance to talk to you! :(

As of 6th grade, he informs me that they haven't officially learned either of them, but that he knows of the existence of both although he couldn't remember from where or who. I hadn't discussed that with him yet since it hadn't come up. He did tell me one day (with NO prompting from me as I wish him to find his own Path as I did) out of the blue that he believes in reincarnation. He has a child's Bible, and after the reincarnation comment, I discussed with him what I believe, and I don't necessarily think that reincarnation is something that contradicts the Bible (or vice versa), so his Path is still open for him to choose. Sidenote: I asked him if he had any thought on either Creationism or Evolution, and he said "I think the second one is more scientific" and "Scientists must not be very religious" to which I responded, that, on the contrary, many scientists are very religious, possibly because they have learned so much that they know that there is more at work than we can understand.

Sorry I can't be of more help on the school front--it's something that probably isn't on the standardized tests in public school, so they don't focus much on it until the standardized tests want them to, and it is something that I try to avoid entirely in my classes because I learned the hard way that no matter how nondenominational and vague I am, no matter how many times I tell them that my views are not necessarily those of the author, I'm going to piss someone off. I taught the novel Queen of the Damned in a class once as a part of a discussion of human desires and the search for immortality and how the vampire myth has changed with human culture and with religion's place in human culture (THAT is a tightrope that I will NEVER walk again), and on the student evaluations, I got a comment that I "hate Catholics." WTF!? I had strenously avoided mention of any particular denomination or religion, I had mentioned countless times the above "not my views" and still.....I really wanted to figure out which student had written that just so that I could say "I'm MARRIED to one, and you missed the point of the whole class!!!" I haven't touched religion in the classroom since. Most of the other teachers I know will tell you the same kind of story, and we all avoid religion of any kind if at all possible. And that's in college!! :(

Doin' fine here. Hope all is well on your end.

Oh yeah, I forgot you were teaching at the college level. The evolution endoctrine usually comes at an earlier level I believe.

Excellent insight you gave your kids about scientists that are religous.
