More opinion. I guess we are all instruments of god.

My guess he says that to anyone he treats that believes in god.

    I believe in God

Just not the God so narrowly definied by one version of religion or another

Wisdom is gained through experience and perspective, and the ability to treat sickness comes from 4 years spent studying chemistry, physics, anatomy, biology, etc. and another 4 years of medical school, following by years of internships/residency.

You can argue that god gave them the brain- but not the ability. I'm sorry, but that discredits the people who saved you.

Thats sort of my point though. If you(or anyone) can attribute your successful recovery to divine intervention, than getting sick can be blamed on divine intervention as well. Nobody would need gods intervention on their behalf if he wasnt fucking them over to begin with.
Seems like the g-man could've saved some time and a lot of suffering by not letting your immune system break down... If he can cure cancer, surely he can prevent it.

I have had 7 surgeries; one, to address an extremely life-threatening condition (19hrs in the OR on 8 March 2008). I credit my survival and my ability to sit here today and type this post to three sources: First, God. For the reasons I have stated before, as I am a Christian whose faith is unshakeable. That is my belief... my right. Second, to my adoring wife and soulmate, and to my children whose collective moral support helped me fight my desire to just pack it in.

Third, to the absolute incredibly well-executed medical care I received. I survived because of their professionalism, training, experience, and skill. From the techs and nurses, specialists and surgeons. All top-notch and I extended my limitless gratitude to them at the time and to this day still. I gushed over their treatment of me as it was second-to-none.

As I stated above, those that have a religious faith start their thought process on all matters from a different perspective than those that have none. There is nothing wrong with that. We all have a set of beliefs that we live our individual lives by, make decisions by, and how we interpret our joys and agonies. So what if Salesman credits his medical treatment to God? His belief--his choice. I think he's made it clear that he also credits the medical care professionals who treated him. As you have a right to believe God has nothing to do with it, he has a right to believe He did. Does it really matter to you what his belief system is? Or is it his voicing his opinion concerning his faith that is so offensive? If you can voice yours, surely you would agree he may voice his.

I'm not begrudging anyone's belief system... anyone of you can believe in what you want. I really don't care. (The Flying Spaghetti Monster idea is rather interesting) But when I re-read posts made by those who admittedly have no religious beliefs, there is a theme throughout: Anger. But why? Isn't it nice we all have the choice to believe as he or she wishes?

It didn't. There may be/have been a Creative Force responsible for all this. The chances that our human perceptions would allow us to adequately define Him/Her/It/Them have always seemed slim to me.

It's cool. And I know many medical professionals who are quite religious. I was just insulted by the context in which you phrased your original statement.

I'm happy that you can find strength to carry through tough trials such as cancer. I had a good friend who could not and passed at 24 after his second round with testicular cancer. He was Catholic and shared much of the same outlook as you have stated. Although he always tried to credit the medical professionals for their work and ease their disappointment in their failure to cure him by saying it was just his time to go. In reality, he could not bear the thought of enduring the pain and his family's pain anymore, especially if it would just come back again stronger -- as it had before.

So leaning on God as a source of strength is a two-way street. I'll always respect your right to worship in whatever way is unobtrusive to others, but I feel that the religious should give some credit to those who have achieved without the aid of the divine as well.

And to whomever asked if I have sand in my manjina, I ask you:

1.) What are you doing looking at my manjina without my permission? And...
2.) In the case that my manjina IS permeated with sand, do you know a good manjina-sand extractor?

There have been a number of comments about my testimony going through cancer and the treatment.
My testimony was not intended to not credit doctors or to come against someone elses belief.
This testimony is mine. What I experienced with stage 4 throat cancer. Nothing less, nothing more. It is given with the hope that someone going through cancer or anything else my be helped or have hope. If you do not receive it that way, that is your problem. It will never change the grace, mercy and hope I received through an awful sickness from a loving GOD, that I know.

Ok WTF? Who decided to report 2 of my posts? No PM, no discussion, someone just made a decision that no one else on TW had the right to read my posts. Posts that got positive rep from 2 members I might add.

If you reported them, at least have the balls to speak up and say why. Hell, I don't even know what exactly was said in those posts since I couldn't go back and view then.

This was in the funny pictures thread, but basically sums up my feelings quite nicely:

Probably one of the same sort that neg repped me for relatively innocuous statements. Either a fauXtian who doesn't practice what they preach, or just some disgruntled sap pissed off at their life and you were a convenient target.

No, not really. :D No one can prove the Easter Bunny, Santa Clause or the Tooth Fairy exist either. We all stop believing in them once we reach a certain age and realize there's nothing to prove them to be real. And yet many adults still believe in God after they stop believing in Santa, etc. How does that make sense to believe in one mythical being, but not another?

I saw a TV show years ago that proved, scientifically, that the red sea could have parted with a strong wind blowing down it's length due to a sand bar stretching from shore to shore. The wind blew the water to the opposite side of the sand bar, so they could have walked across that.

Same show thought the had evidence of Noah's Ark in a glacier somewhere. Square wood frames about the right size buried in ice. I enjoyed those shows and kept an open mind toward them, and considered the evidence. But beyond that, I haven't seen anything else really proven or attempted to be proven. Meanwhile all the college books I've used have be updated, revised, and corrected each year as new discoveries were made, theories proven/disproven/updated, etc. The bible has been translated. Ever try to read assembly instructions on something made in china and packaged in Mexico? Translations aren't always accurate, even less accurate going through multiple languages. Then you have the arguments about which version is right, so it can't even be updated/corrected at this point. So it just gets translated from one language to another, moving further and further away from the original message. And no one even knows what that was. But we should believe it. ;) Sure, sure. I'll get right on that.

Oh, and Ryo is just using the same criteria the religious friend is using for not believing in Unicorns. ;) Perfect argument to me. If you don't believe in my mythical being because of 1, 2, 3, and 4, don't expect me to believe in your mythical being for the same reasons.
