These things have been know to "malfunction" resulting in hundreds of drivers being wrongly ticketed. With the way the system is set up even if you know you were not speeding you are guilty until proven innocent.

WWW.CAMERFRAUD.COM If you live in AZ you may or may not have hear about this group. Whether you like the cameras or not they are worth a look. Many people who were of the same opinion as stated above have become devout camera opposers because they learned what the system is really about and how unconstitutional this type of enforcement really is.

If you are against the cameras and you haven't done so already, go to the website above and lear how you can help get these cameras out of AZ.

Yeah but you do have the ability to plead guilty to your ticket on the side of the road without going to court, and the cops will try to talk you into it as well. Ask me how I know. And ask me how I know it costs more to reverse that plea than it does to pay the ticket.

There is a camerafraud.com site for the DC folks too. DC.CAMERAFRAUD.COM

If you get a ticket by a LEO then you can go to court and plea your case. You can also call that LEO to court and question him. If you get a ticket from a camera you are guilty until proven innocent, and some places you don't even go to court if you chose to "defend yourself." Also there is no way to question a camera.

Are those cameras going to pull over drunk drivers? Are they cameras going to pull over and arrest the guy who stole your truck? More leos=safer streets, more camera=more rear-end collisions.

The companies who run those camera live on profits. They are regulated by no one. It is in their best interest to take your money, not to keep you safe.

They who sacrifice essential freedoms for a little temporary safety deserves neither freedom nor safety. -Ben Franklyn

I agree. I was caught going "approximately 65" in a 55 zone. I knew I was speeding, so was the dozen or so cars in front and back of me. The camera was like a strobe light when I went through.

Don't get me wrong guys. I'm not against the cameras because I like to speed. I have never got a speed camera ticket and it has been at least 8 years since I have had a speeding ticket issued by a police officer. I am against them because of their disregard to due process and the fact that they are being operated by unregulated, for profit foreign companies. Yes FOREIGN companies. Redflex, the company that AZ DPS uses for it's freeway cameras and many other states use as well, is HQ'd in Australia. What would you do if your state started outsourcing it's police duties to foreign cops. What if the next officer that pulled you over was in a car maked POLZEI and the officer spoke in a thick German accent as he asked for your papers. Better yet what would you do if the next car that pulled you over had POLICIA written across the side. I'm sure the Mexicans would love to come up here and take over our law enforcement agencies. But then again you could probably just give the guy in the policia car some money on the side of the road and he'd forget the whole thing happened.

i'm against them. for one, it's less jobs for police officers who seem to be getting laid off like GM employees lately. secondly, they are just too "big brother" for me. you wanna catch me speedin'? get out here and catch me.

everything's getting too impersonal nowadays...i've gotten out of speeding tickets simply by treating the officer with due respect and pleading my case to him/her as to why i may be speeding...can't do that with a camera. i don't think i'll have to worry about them anytime soon though...we can barely afford to keep the traffic lights operational her in the appalacias.

    Del,
You lived out here... you know if you do not keep pace with traffic on the road you are unsafe and probably going to get rear ended or worse... shot at by some road rage idiot. If I get popped by a LEO I have no problem... a civilian agency that keeps 37% of the ticket revenue, I have a problem with. You are a smart guy, how hard is it to manipulate the pic and speed data. Before you say no way, think about it, they already got the state of AZ to lower the threshold to 10 over not 11 over. Next... 5 over, maybe 1 over. When does it stop.

P.S. check out the apple website. New Safari browser.

Hear, hear! That has to be my biggest gripe. Well other than the fact that they violate your right to face your accuser.

I hardly ever do any driving around Az... but I used to live in Australia (Sydney) and traveling up the coast on surf trips in New South Wales they had speed cameras from ever 10-60 Kms. Caught over the speed limit AT ALL and you can expect a hefty ticket in the mail...

:mad: I think the first time should be a warning and you get 1 freebee every 2 years or so. I dont care who you are EVERYONE speeds now and then if your not paying attention. I am not a fan of these things but I think they are here to stay because the are generating cash.

camerafraud is a joke, cant do anything better than make up crap like how redflex got dps to change the limit from 11 to 10 is a complete fabrication its still 11 over and the only time its less is if its in a school zone with a 15 mph sign so the limit is 20. theres also a required distance from a speed change and the cameras are usually over a mile from the speed change so none of that 65 to 55 with a camera right after it crap, plus theres several signs warning of a photo enforcement zone ahead

You are so right on Brotha! I have been telling people this for years and they just look at me with a blank stare in disbelief. I cant believe how many people out there dont know their rights......er.....wait yes I can sorry I forgot they were never edamacated to them when in school.

There is more information in the school textbooks nowdays on Marylin Monroe and how much of a slut she was, then there is about our Constitution and the rights guranteed to us by it.

People, the government wants to keep you dumb and ignorant so that even when you do have rights, you dont know what they are and they can walk all over you.

They are unconsitutional. You have the right to face your accuser in a court of law. That camera cannot show up in court to point at you and state that it personally say YOU in the driver's seat while effecting a traffic stop. The kangaroo traffic courts will tap dance around the Constitutional issue day and night, as they are easy revenue, and practically nobody cares enough to challenge their existance.

a red light camera gave me my first ticket  it's gay though because (while I "technically" ran the light) there are certain situations where running the light is safer than slamming on the brakes, like when you're behind an 18 wheeler and can't see the light, stuff like that. but no one can tell the difference with a couple pictures
