    Hi Everyone
First post here and this is my first pick up truck. Always been a car guy but I am really liking my 2018 Tacoma TRD Sport 6M/T. I figured my first mod would be wheels and tires. I think I want to drop down to a 16" wheel. It looks like the biggest tire I can put is P265/75-16. I have been looking at Fuel Vector wheels and method NV. I plan on putting 5100's all the way around at some point with a 2" lift. I pretty much want to know what offset I should go with on these wheels because I am also putting on fender flares and I would like the tires to sit flush with the new fender flares. So to recap, I have the following questions:

Is it foolish to do the wheels and tires before lifting it? Because should it have a bigger tire after the lift?

What should the offset be for it to sit flush, if not out a hair from the fender flare?

Looking forward to being a member of the forum

    -Chris

Welcome! From what I've seen, I think a -12 offset would be close to what you're looking for. Hopefully a resident wheel expert will chime in with confirmation or the correct answer.

    hi Chris, welcome to TW.

i'm not going to comment on the first bit. others have more to say. but regarding your offset question and fender flares, you're looking to be in the ballpark of 0 offset to be flush. -10 pokes just a tick. 0 looks solid.

Doesn't that also depend on the width of the wheel?

First off, Welcome to TW. Second, you need to include more detail in your question. What width wheel are you looking at? If you're worried about aesthetics, I had 16x8 wheels with 15mm offset with 265/75's on a 3" lift and they looked fine. They sat flush with the fender flares on my 08. You're next real step up after 265/75 is 285/75 which you are going to need a lift and start taking pieces out of your wheel wells. Also depends on what you want to use your truck for. Are you going to stick to asphalt or are you going to take it offroad? How often are you going to offroad? Etc.. I recommend you figure out what you really want before you start with a $1500+ mod.

Side Note: If you look at the top of this W&T forum you can see stickys about common questions like this.

Welcome. And theres a couple things to ask.

You said different fender flares, will these new flares stick out the same as factory, or will they stick out further? If they go out farther, then you will need something like a -12 offset, to make the wheel stick out a bit. 265/75-16 shouldnt rub on anything lifted or not, unless you go above a -1 offset.

I agree, i would decide on the smaller aspects of ecerything before dropping a couple grand and then have to do the cab mount chop on a brand new ride.

    I think 265/75 looks fine on 2” with 5100s.

I would agree, unless the OP is going for a "big" tire look (if that makes sense)...

    Hi guys
Thank you for all the replies

The car isn’t going to be off road if at all. Strictly pavement really. The wheels are gonna be 16x8 with 265/75 tires and I don’t want to hack up the wheel wells. So the new wheel cannot rub on stock suspension. The fender flares stick out about 1.5” more than stock.

If increase the offset on stock suspension will they rub?

Here’s the best I can tell you, because I’m not a wheel expert... on my old truck I had the 4Runner Pro wheels on mine with 265/70/17 and a 2” lift with 5100s. I wanted my wheels to stick out a little further, so I tried spidertrax spacers at 1.25” and they rubbed the cab mount, so I took them off and sold them.

There’s a million and one combos out there, but if you increase the offset too much with any combo, yes, you’ll rub.

Sorry if that’s clear as mud.

Now on my new truck, I have a zero offset on 285/75/16 and did the cab mount chop.

Don't want to make your head explode, but you also have to remember that the tire sizing plays a role in this as well. In other words, the size and aspect ratio, are not absolute measurements. As an example, Coopers tend to run small an Toyo's tend to run large.

3 in lift, 17x9 -12 offset Fuel Krank wheels,New decals, Bull Bar,
I have a 2015 with 17x9 -12 offset and even with a lift running 265/70/17 they rubbed the front mudflaps, so I took them off. I’m not sure if the 2018 has them on the front though. If you can afford it I would do the lift with wheels at the same time
