2021 Red Tacoma SR5 Double Cab Short Bed V6 4wd
I am new to this group and this is my first post. I have a 2019 Tacoma SR double cab short bed V6 4wd. I am happy with 16” tires but would like to eventually change the steel wheels to something better looking (like take offs from a TRD Off road or a nice black 16” TRD wheel that Toyota sells). The standard wheels are 16x7, same as the aforementioned nicer wheels. The only thing is that my OEM tires are 245/75 16 and the wheels I’m considering say they are for 265/70 16 tires. Will these wheels work with my tires and my truck without messing anything up? And can I use the 265/70 tires when my original ones get replaced?
    Thanks!

You can run 265/75r16 if you want

You'll need different lug nuts for the alloy wheels. They are mag style nuts, have a flat shoulder and washers. I switched my SR to SR5 alloys I got cheap as take offs.

I keep 6 of my steel wheel acorn style nuts packed with the jack in case I need to put on my steel wheel spare.

The mag style lugs have a tapered end so they will work on a steel wheel as well. That way you don't have to have different lug nuts when using your spare.

    Welcome to the forum. :hattip:

You will find lots of tires and wheels on sale on craigslist. If it came from a Toyota truck and it is 6 lug, it will fit your truck. (Except 15" and smaller) So there are a wide variety of styles and sizes to choose from.

I found that Craigslist has a lot of wheel / tire combos for sale from folks that are upgrading their TRDs (at least in my area - Colorado). I was able to pick up alloy wheels and essentially new tires for less than the tires would cost. As Steve says, you will need new lug nuts and there can be issues using the TPMS from the steel rims on the aluminum rims.

I've used mag nuts on steel wheels in the past successfully but they don't have as much bearing surface at the end as a proper acorn nut. I just keep the acorns in the bin with the jack and it makes me happy knowing I have the proper nut for the wheel.

For the last 10 years, I have swapped over from aluminum to steel for winters on my old 05 Corolla. I have just used the mag lug nuts with zero issues. And Toyota would supply different nuts for the spare if they felt there was even the slightest risk of failure and lawsuits.

I ebay'd a set of OEM OR take off wheels for my 19' SR work pickup (same style as my 18' OR) ....had the local tire shop swap the tires onto the new wheels, no issues and looks sooooo much better

EDIT: Heads up we did have an issue now that I think of it -- if you do that swap like I did you will need different TPS Sensors (OR and SR wheels use different sensors) and a shop with the capabilities of programming them
