A half inch spacer? Will you be cutting the stock studs? I’m not sure if there’s pockets on the back of the wheel to accommodate the added length.

I honestly don’t know since I’ve never seen anyone run that figment.
Good news is we know you’re fine without the spacers so you could always add the spacers, check clearance and if it rubs pull the spacers.

I decided to pass on the spacers anyways. Guess I'll just buy the tires and go from there. I don't think they will rub much being skinnies but guess we will find out. Don't ever plan going bigger than 33's because then you get into regearing and big money lol

    wanna be mods
    Background:
    • I went from 275/60r20 (20x9 -12offset, a 4.5bs) with a 3-n-1 pro comp leveling kit (this was part of the “Pro Comp” packaged that was on my truck from dealer).
    • I just jumped over to SCS S6 17x8.5 w/ -10offset and 4.3bs and wrapped them with 285/70r17 Goodyear Wrangler Ultraterrain ATs. Running stock UCA’s without any rubbing/interference.
Normal daily driving on the new setup has produced no rubbing, however, when taking right turns uphill it appears that I've got rubbing on the front driver side liner (again at front of wheel well), and no apparent back of the liner/cab mount rubbing. I did trim off the obvious part of the liner on the front left (driver side) where it produced rubbing with those right turns on an uphill (and again when going down the incline).

Since I’ve had the new setup on for 4 days, I haven’t had many opportunities to troubleshoot/produce more/other rubbing spots with various articulation/stuffing at various wheel turn angles…but don't have many easy and close areas to practice flexing.fender side view trimming caption circled trim spot.jpg
Am I missing something here with folks trimming up and/or heat modify technique for this area where it appears the wheel well exterior trim (plastic grey on OR models) anchors to the actual bumper...are you guys chopping this off, too, or just bending/heating it to tuck up/under?fender underside screw aspect caption boxed.jpg

QUESTION/FEEDBACK from Similar Setups (I know it ultimately comes down to each individual rig)

Have you guys had any success using the jack stand and floor jack to get full droop and full stuff testing while turning the wheels? My neighbor has a big auto shop at their house with a two post vehicle lift, and was wondering if that would be the more secure/efficient & easiest way to try and see where trimming and how far back the CMC should be done?

Here is the side/top-side view (left side of photo is the front end/actual bumper orientation) on drivers side.
    fender side view trimming 5-27.jpg
I presume almost all of the rubber liner would need to be molded for when suspension is stuffed, and I foresee getting my neighbor to do the CMC (and likely fab the plates in his shop) and might as well knock out the pinch weld while in there, but didn't know what folks have done with the area where the plastic fender attaches to the actual underside of the front bumper.

So far the UCA clearance looks great...but once I am in a position to upgrade suspension (~2.5" lift up front, dakar medium rear leaf pack and upgraded rear strut likely), I'm sure adding the SP/LR UCA would just make life easier over all with alignment, etc.UCA w_Ultraterrain 5-27.jpg

I have read through numerous threads and see most of the cutting pertains to CMC or the rear well liner area.

Appreciate any and all feedback or insight you all might have!

as a side note... got the S6 17x8.5 with Goodyear Ultraterrain AT 285/70 up under the bed in the stock location... or I should say my Discount Tire manager got it up there without bending/banging on anything. 20190528_170932.jpg20190528_171212.jpg 20190528_171154.jpg

A lot of great information here, but as someone not "in the know", I'm still a little confused as to what can fit and what can't.

If I purchased an aftermarket wheel that's 17x8.5 with a 14mm offset, would that fit without rubbing on a stock set up? I have a 2015 2nd generation Tacoma. I was thinking of putting the Wildpeaks tire everyone seems to like here. Thanks in advance for any input.

From the offset it sounds like you’re looking at a Fuel wheel.
I’d recommend getting the -6mm offset but that’ll rub the mud flaps if you have them on. The -6mm will give a more aggressive look just poking out from the fender.
The +14 should fit with the stock tire size, but any bigger will rub the UCA. It will also position the wheel and tire under the fender. The +14 is more often used with GM full size trucks which need a higher offset than our Tacoma’s and use the same bolt pattern.

Was my guess correct with a Fuel wheel, or whatcha looking at?

Good guess! I was looking at the Fuel Assault wheel. It had a 14 and 25mm offset available in the 17 x 8.5. I chose the 14mm randomly as the factory offset is closer to zero. I'm cool with removing the mud flaps, but wanted to stay away from lifting it (if at all possible). This is not for off-roading....looks only.

Seems like there are a ton of options at 17x9. I chose the 8.5 because it was closer to factory (7). I'm really clueless. LOL

Oh wow this should've been a sticky in the wheels and tires section.

I feel alot more comfortable about what the hell I'm looking at, as well as wheel widths(what brought me here) as well as BS/offset

    Nice job OP

Glad I could help! It’s really simple once you get it. But “getting it” can take some effort.

Hey guys any of you have a 2-3 inch lift with 285 70 17 tires on STOCK wheels experience rubbing?

I dont mind a little trimming but I dont want to do the cab mount chop on my truck just yet.

I have a 2005 trd sport and I just ordered the bilstien 5100 kit with OME dakar heavies from headstrong and I want to figure out my tires. I also ordered new UCA to get the alignment bit right in hopes this might help.

If I need to go 275 70 17 I will but I wanted to try to keep the stock wheels for now if possible after spending 1900 on the lift lol.

    nice truck!

I have the SAME one in grey and I just purchased that exact lift.

Did you have to do any modifications to get those tires to not rub anywhere on the stock wheels?

also I will be following to see how you fit the 285's.

285/70/17 and 275/70/17 will rub the upper control arm on stock wheels.

Your best choice would be 255/80/17 which is a 33” diameter but narrow enough that you can use your stock wheels without rubbing suspension components.

Wait so how did this guy run them without issues?

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...mplete-with-poll.514755/page-12#post-19958867

That is exactly what I am about to do to my truck lift wise

I will look for some pics of the 255/80/17 and see how that looks. currently running a 265 and I really dont think I would want to go any narrower than that though.

Thats a great question. I’d ask that guy to drive around and then look at his upper control arms.

My fiancé’s Tacoma had 275/70/17 on stock sport wheels and they “worked” but the tires would rub the uppers when turning. Straight lines were fine. And the rubbing didn’t cause any notable issues aside from rubbing the UCAs. She had KO2s and maybe that caused the issue, it’s possible other tires of the same size won’t rub.

This thread should hold pictures of 255 tires -
