Found the culprit. o_O Not sure if I want to call this a mud flap, as it's attached to the fender right in front of my tire. It's as useless as an erasable ink pen if you ask me. Looking at a lot of pics on the forum, no one else has these. These will be coming off today and I'll be putting them on craigslist for free for a child's 10" MTB.

When I get home from work and have the time to read this I can make a final decision. But, on first glance, this might be the best thread on TW.

Tony ( @FJ to Taco ) hope you don't mind me sharing your post -
A great example of the CMC (Cab Mount Chop) to clear larger diameter tires. Jason ( @Speed Freek ) did the work for anyone needing this done in southern california

edit: larger diameter AND wider tires*

Yes it did, thanks! I became industrious since my hands were already black with grime and took 3 1/2 " off the front mud flaps too. Looks more like I want it to, and when I have time I'll take a couple inches off the rear flaps because they sort of resemble coat tails right now. Not a good look for a lady. ;-)

Haha yeah it can get pretty dirty down there. Nice work on the flaps! They're so damn long stock. In CA it's technically illegal not to have them. I never was ticketed in nor cal when I lived up there, but the so cal cops (errr actually border patrol) can be pretty strict about it. Wish I had kept and trimmed my stock mud flaps.

    Your truck looks great!

I ran 285/70/17 with about 1.5-2” of lift, whatever the Fox 2.0 performance series coilover comes preset at (almost leveled).
Rubbed on the rear fender flare on the lowest couple inches, so I cut that, very minorly.
No rubbing when daily driving after that, but “flexed” and turning offroad I did rub the rear of the flare still.

I'm a technician in my day job, so grimy hands and tools are a routine. Still trying to get comfortable working on my truck but little things here and there are fun. Now I'm in the market for some steps...short legs, bigger tires...yeah.

Yea looks good! I trimmed my rear mud flaps with my dremil. I measured and right under the 4x4 it took off 2 inches. I have not yet ripped them off going over rocksmud flap.jpg

A dremil would have been a good idea. I used a hacksaw and cleaned up the edges with a blade. Might try a dremil on the rears. Looks good!

I just want to know if 305/70r16 will clear if I hammer the pinch weld on 16x8 with 0mm offset with 4.5" backspacing on a first gen. Anyone have experience? what about 295/75r16.

How much room do you currently have between the spindle/uca from your tire currently?

A 305 will be a tight fit with the inner rim position being close to stock.

    (Comparison of 265/70-16 on a stock 16x7 +15mm offset wheel vs a 305/70-16 on a 16x8 0mm offset)

I always live by the rule of buying the tire rim combo you like then doing what it takes to make it fit :p

What website did you use for that comparison? Right now I am running 265/75R16 on the same rim (16x8 0mm offset) I plan to use for the 305/70 if they fit. I have roughly about 1-2 inches depending on where I measure. At the top of the tire its about 2in. from the fattest part of the tire its about 1in.

    Just for example, a KO2 265/75-16 has a width of 10.5"
    upload_2017-11-22_13-52-29.jpg

Here are the specs on 285, 295 and 305 for the same KO2 just for example.

    upload_2017-11-22_13-55-36.jpg

From the 265 to 285 it's a change of 0.7" which means 0.35" wider per side of the tire. We know this size will clear.

The 265 to 305 i a change of 1.7" which means 0.85" per side which will be very tight if you have ~1.00" of room. If you plan on airing down the tire will be wider at that point.

What tires? Don't see many options for 295s. Well atleast for 295/75R16.
