I'm looking to get rid of my wife's 20 inch blinged-out aftermarket rims. The ride is terrible--we bought the truck three weeks ago and I've taken it in for balancing twice--in two different states, no less! I get the same remark--the rims are big and hard to balance, blah, blah, blah.

Either way, I found a set of stock alloys from an '05 Taco on CL. A few questions:

    1. Will the TPMS fit these 05 alloys? Or will I have to find a place to mod them? Straps?
    2. Are 16's OK to drive on?

Here are the rims in question:

I don't want to drop $200 to find out I can't use these rims because of TPMS issues.

    Thanks for all your help!

Not sure about the TPMS, but 16's are great to drive on.
Franklin, huh? Was there a few weeks ago visiting my girlfriend!

OK, will these fit my wife's '07? I'm pretty sure they will, but I want to make sure before I drive 3.5 hours to pick them up. The TPMS are still installed, so I just have to take it to the dealership to get the sensors programmed.

As far as i know TPMS was not on 05 models,it came in 07 or 08. That doesnt mean the rims wont facilitate TPMS, but wouldnt count on it either. I suspect straps will be needed, just dont have an absolute answer. Does your 07 have TPMS? the reset button and all?

(edit) yea 2005 up have em . I have steel factory rims , but bought new 16 alloy like you have, and they take a different sensor than the steel ones. No idea what type is in the 20" rims you have. If the stock rims were alloy then they would fit, if the stock was steel... no idea.

Yes, I have TPMS on my 07. Not sure where the reset button is though. The problem is I'm not sure which of the two types of TPMS are on the aftermarket rims. 20 or 40 degree sensors. This is why I think I'll just pick up the '11 model set--they're new and already have the sensors in them. I just wanna make sure the wheels will fit my 07.

reset is left and under the steering wheel/column, you'll see a small button.

Drove the three hours to east Tennessee yesterday and picked up the new set of steelies and put them on this morning. HOLY CRAP! Ride quality is amazing. More torque, better acceleration and the ride is smoooooth as silk--even at 85mph. Still gotta swap out the tpms or have Toyota reprogram the ones in the stock wheels I just put on. My wife is not too happy with the look of the steelies, but oh well.

She wants to bedazzle them. I said "absolutely not."

Now I gotta get rid of these 20 inch Velocity wheels.

Straps are not necessary for the sensors.

Sold the rims and wheels yesterday and didn't fool with the TPMS. I'll just have the ones in the steelies reprogrammed eventually. Thanks CL! WOOHOO!
