Thanks, Cape Codder, for the TRD 17" specs. That should help visualize what possible problems might appear when considering a wheel upgrade.
I'm really hooked on the ProComp 5035 Predator 17x8.5 in Satin Black, but might have to use a spacer to clear the inside with my 265/65-17 Coopers.

Hi folks. I have a 2013 TRD Sport with a 3" Toytec Ultimate lift. Was talking to some tire shop guys and two different shops suggested a 18x9 rim with 4.5 bs and -12 offset. They said with this rim I could probably wrap it in 285/65/18s. Anyone out there running this setup or know if I would have any issues? Thanks.

Also, I realize it would probably stick out a bit. Planning on doing something with the fenders at some point.

Shouldn't stick out too much. If my math is correct, your tires will stick out as much as my 18x9 0 offset (5" b.s.) with 305/60-18s did. Puts it about an inch past the fender flare.

How much trimming did you have to do to get 305s?

Trimmed off a good chunk of the mudflap (most just take them off). Trimmed a little off of the fender flare around where the mudflaps are, and trimmed a little off of the cab mount. I didn't really need to do anything for the front of the wheel well.

Hopefully that means minimal trimming for the 285s that I'm planning on getting. My mud flaps are already off. Tore one off while I was out and took the other off so they matched.

So I made a mistake, the wheels I am looking at have 106.1 mm backspace, which is actually only about 4.18 inches. Is that going to cause me any grief? These are the wheels, http://www.kxwheels.com/kx/wheel/worx-wheels/802sb-havoc-black-machined-35042/, Part # 802-8983SB12.

You'll probably have to do trimming similar to what I did, since the outer edge of the tire will be in about the same position. Since my 305's I've moved on to 285/16-75s on a 16x8 0 offset (4.5 b.s.). Even though the tire is thinner, it's slightly taller, and I've had to completely remove the mudflaps. Also, this depends on your alignment numbers. So YMMV.

I'm trying to purchase a 5th wheel for my truck(spare) and want to make sure I'm getting the same wheel( By Specs)

When I layed the wheel down and measured from the inside "mounting surface" to the outside edge of the wheel I got roughly 4.5"(I believe this is Backspacing?)

Is it possible this is the same wheel?

    17x8
    Offset: 10mm
    Backspacing: 4.84" Bolt Pattern: 6-139

edit: If I understand this all correctly between backspacing plus offset on the above wheel would measure roughly 4.34" using the means I did...?

Question on a certain rim fitting 2013 DCSB. Anybody seen or heard anyone running a Mickey Thompson sidebiter ll 16x8? Tried ordering the rim & the rep said it will not fit on my truck because it will hit the caliper. He also said i cant fit ANY 16x8 on this vehicle but ive seen NUMEROUS 16x8 rims on Tacomas. Looking for alil insight before ordering or changing rim size. Thanks

Is your truck the TRD? My understanding is that the newer TRDs have a larger caliper and will not fit anything less than a r17 without rubbing the caliper. I think some people have "shaved" their calipers and got r16s to fit.

I actually got them on with no problems, the 16" rim with a offset fit with no caliper issues, I spoke to the guys over at SD Wheel and they hooked me up, good company on ebay!!! Thanks! JW

Yeah i've got the TRD package. "Shaving" the calipers, how hard of a task is that & does it effect the caliper in regards to safety? Thanks for the insight, much appreciated.

AFAIK, all calipers for the Tacoma's are the same size. Doesn't matter if you have a SR5 or a TRD Sport or Offroad or any other TRD package.
