I know there's at least one set of older Tacoma 16" rims that won't fit the 2005+ Tacomas.

I have searched and read 33 pages of this thread and I don't have a clue at this point . I found the largest tire I can run is a 265 70 17. But what can I run in wheels size. Method 105 17x8.5 BS 4.75? will the 8.5 fit on a 2015 TRD offroad with no lift? With the 265 70 17 or is it too wide?

My brain hurts right now... 17x8.5, 4.75 back spacing, 0 offset. Will that fit on a stock 2014 DCSB without rubbing or major problems?

It depends on the tire you're running, and a number of other factors. The only truth is that if you want to maintain 100% of your factory suspension travel on a wheel/tire set up that deviates from stock specs, you're going to have to trim something.

On my 2010 I ran 275/65/17's on 17x8 @ 4.5" backspacing on stock suspension, and only lightly rubbed at full stuff and full lock. I never trimmed anything and never took the time to see what was rubbing.
Now I run 275/75/17's on 17x8.5 @ 4.75" backspacing on a 3" lift and had to do some light plastic trimming of the fender flare wheel well liner. I'm also running aftermarket UCA's with caster at 2.4 (this does make a difference regarding rubbing). Haven't run it offroad, so not sure how it will do at full stuff but it's completely rub free on the street.

Based on my experience, this is what would need to be trimmed in order of "distance" from the hub (if you're running less tire OD than 32.7", or more backspacing you may only have to do the first few). Most of these items are in the rear of the front wheel wells and will be contacted by the tire on the side you are turning towards:

Mudflaps (remove them, they'll break anyway)
Front "MPG tabs" (remove them, they're fugly)
Bottom rear inside lip of the fender flare
Lower part of the plastic wheel well liner
Pinch weld (behind the wheel well liner)
    Cab mount

So if I am looking to run 286/75/R16 on a 2013 with a level kit (3 inch front, AAL rear), been told to look at a 16x8 6x5.5 with 5" back space and -12mm offset.... that sounds about right? Already tried 4.25" backspace and -6 offset and it wasn't enough......

Doesn't sound right. The offset does, but not the backspacing. With a -12mm offset, you should have closer to 4" backspacing, which is what you want. With a 5" backspacing, your wheels would be closer to the suspension.

Yeah I am currently running the stock TRD offroad rims with a 1.25inch spacer. What should I look at then for a backspace and off set?

    Typically, your 8" rims are actually closer to 9" wide. You're basically adding 1/2" for each lip. So a 8" rim with a 0 offset will have a 4.5" BS (9 / 2 = 4.5).

You should be safe with any rims with a 0 offset, or a negative offset. The more negative your offset, the less BS you'll have, which means the more your wheel will stick out.

I've run 305's on a 18x9 with a 0 offset (5" BS) wheel, and still cleared the suspension.

OK, Definitely weird seeing how I tried the 16x8 with 4.25inch back space and it still grabbed the control arm. I was pissed

Thats the exact same rim, but in chrome. Didn't fit. Tire grabbed the UCA and barely cleared the caliper.

You could measure the BS to see if you were sent the correct rims. Other than that, I'm not sure why they wouldn't fit.

Already sent the rims back, was too pissed to even think of it to be honest. Going to look at a shop that does custom rims to get the right set up. Do not need anything special, just black rims that'll get rid of the damn spacers.

I have looked through some of the threads here, but can't find a listing of oem toyo rims that would have the same offset/sizing
Like first generation tundra rims interchangeable with tacoma first generation? Maybe others that may be interchangeable highlander, fj, etc. looking to change a 2x4 older 2001 taco to a 16" rim and larger tires

Anyone running American racing Baja on a first gen? I'm looking in to getting a pair. 15x8 -19mm offset and 3.75" backspacing. I just want to know how much they stick out
