I didn't really mean a 265/70 maybe like a 235 or 245/60 on 15x8" wheels. My question was about the BACKSPACING. I'm just looking for an alternative to lifting and putting 31s on there.

I just want a reasonable wide look while still relatively keeping my gear ratio. (My buddies taco is 7 mph off at 65mph!) So my question is with a 8" wide rim will the 2.5" backspacing be too much or will the 3.75" be just fine.

The stock 5 lug steelies have a very high positive offset, its practically right at the outside of the wheel. That along with the skinny 215s make the truck look kinda weak.

    Thanks guys

I think stock backspacing on 5-lugs is 3.75, but I'm not positive.

But if that's the case, then the new 15x8 rims would stick out 2" further than stock, because they have the same backspacing but are 2" wider....

Back space is the distance from the mounting point to the back of the rim. In this picture, the wood is on the part of the rim that goes towards the truck.

 You do, or do not know what backspacing is?

4.0 backspacing means the inner lip of the rim sits 4 inches out from the mounting point of the rim. The 16x8 means the rim is 16" in diameter and 8" in width.

Show me a link of what you are talking about.

40 backspace would mean 40" of backspacing, which is not realistic.

Alright I'm about a week away from making this purchase and I still cant seem to find a direct answer for my question.

I'm buying some procomp 15x8s but I don't know which BS to get. The 3.75" or the 2.5". I'm wanting to run 255/60s because I can get a great deal on them and I think they would look sick but I'm wondering if the 3.75"s will rub or will the 2.5"s stick out too far.

    Thanks

Where did you find a tire in that size? Are you sure you odn't mean 285/75/16?

255/60's are only a 27" tire, and are too wide for a 5-lug on stock suspension anyway. You can go up to 235/75/15 without a lift, which is a 29".

The 3.75" will be your best bet, that's close to stock backspacing for 5-lugs.

Hey thanks by the way for your input I don't seem to be getting much of it since this is a more specific subject.

I'm just leaning towards the 255/60s because its only a 0.7% difference in height so I'd relatively be keeping my gear ratio untouched.

So when you say their too wide for stock suspension are you talking about the control arms and stuff because that's why I figured getting the right backspacing would help me clear any rub?

I'm not really worried about being close to the stock backspacing, I'm actually wanting them to stick out a bit but not excessively. That's why I'm torn between the 3.75" and the 2.5".

Sorry man I really don't know much more about 5 lugs as far as where the rubbing will occur and how to prevent it. I just know the 235 is the max size. Maybe try in the 5 lug forum?

I really hate to do this, but I guess its better than starting another thread. I want to buy xd diesel 18x9 Says it has a 0 offset and a 5 backspace. I am putting on 285 65r18 tires so that should be good. I am mainly concerned with the wheel fitment. Will these work? Once again I apologize for doing this but I just cant figure it out myself and need help.
