Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Personally I avoid the 17" just because of the tire selection and price. 16" tend to be cheaper.

No it's not true. That tire is smaller than a 265/70-16. The largest size (on a stock lift) you can rock is a 265/75-16.

    Why won't the rims fit?

To add, I don't think you run a 255 on a 9" rim. I think 8 is the max. You should look at the tire manufactures recommended width if you choose to go that route.

Ya it is a 17x 8. So you would recommend a 16x8 with the 265/75/16? The other wheel had clearance issues with the caliper I guess and they claimed it would stick out about 3 inches.

They are giving me a pretty good deal on the tires and the wheels are resonabley priced. Because he is hooking me up on the tires I thought it seemed like a good deal. Still a lot, but first seem like he's rapping me. So the only reason you don't like the 17 is price and tire selection? There isn't any other clearance issues or any thing? And what size tire would you recommend for the 17? Sorry if any of this is repetitive, I just wantto be sure, you know.

16" s are just personal preference and yes solely because of price and selection. Granted i think the 17" selection is beginning to increase now. Attached are prices of the exact same tires except rim size. It boggles me to understand how a tire with less material costs more.

A 265/70-17 is 99% the same size as a 265/75-16. It's your truck so by all means select what's right for you.

Ya I was shocked the price difference. I was looking at American racing mojaves in the 17 and it was double the price of the 16 that I wanted in another rim. The black rock ones I found though aren't ad bad. But I totally see what you mean. And I appreciate the help and feedback.

so just for future reference, i plan on replacing my stock rims with some aftermarket ones. i will probably get some 17" rims and i want to run 285/75/17. what kind of offset/backspacing do i need to run 17" rims and not use spacers or rub UCAs?

285/75/17 is a pretty odd size. Do you mean 285/70/17?

4.5" BS is what you want.

Im assuming 265s? If so They will work if the tires you are running are approved for 9" rims. Check the manufacturers website. Many 265s are not approved for use on 9" rims, but some are.

So can I put moto metal 951's on my 2011 prerunner double cab without having to buy spacers? The rims are 17x9 -12 offset and 4.53 backspacing with a 265/65 tire

Those will work fine, as long as the tires you are buying are approved for 9" wide rims. Check the tire manufactuers website.

First off, thanks for all the info. As a noob, this is very helpful. And sorry for long winded question.

I am about to purchase a 2012 DCLB Sport or Sport Upgrade. This will be daily driver lots with LOTS of highway miles.

I am interest in two wheels: (keep diameter stock dependent on sport or upgrade package)

-Dick Cepek DC-2 Machined Black 17x9 or 18x9: Backspace 4.5". Stick out 3" vs stock (I think that's right.)
-Gear Alloy 721mb Timberland 17x9 or 18x9: Backspace 5.71". Stick out 1.75" from stock. (I think that's right.)
-Curious about other wheel too, but can't identify. Any takers?

Tires: Michelin LTx M/S2 or A/T2 (sizes accomodate 9" rims)
    17x9: 265/70R17
    18x9: 265/60R18 or 265/65R18 or 265/70R18

    Addt'l info:
-Because miles driving I don't wanna kill mpg - so no 285's
    -No offroading
    -Assume stock suspension

Any rubbing issues with either wheels and their respective tire combos?

Thanks for your help! KPT, I hope that beeper is still working.

    No spacers required.
You might want to avoid the 5.71" BS. Although it will stick out slightly more than stock, the tire will sit closer to the UCA. You may hit the UCA if the tire expands when hitting a bump. I'm not saying you will, just something to consider that the possibility is there.

You should have no issues with the Cepeks.
