I'm having a problem with getting my wheels balanced. When I bought my wheels I had to go back to discount tire 3 times to get rid of the steering wheel shake. After that it was good for the next 2000 miles. I just took my truck in for it's 5000 mile service and they rotated my tires and the next day I notice my steering wheel shaking again intermittently between 55 and 65 mph. I just took it to discount tire again today to get the wheels re balanced and it is still shaking pretty much the same. They said they had to add more weight to all wheels but that they were good now. I don't have the time or patience to keep going back to discount tire only to keep having this issue.

My question is could this possibly not even be a balance issue but an issue with the wheels themselves? Should I try buying some hub centric rings? I have had a couple people tell me that they won't make that much of a difference including the guy at discount tire. I just think it's strange that it is only doing this between 55 and 65. If it is a wheel balance issue I would think it would progressively get worse at higher speeds not disappear after 65 mph. I could be wrong though.

My wheels are Pro Comp 7031 and the bore diameter is 108 mm if that helps. I believe the hub size on these trucks is 106 mm iirc.

Does discount tire just suck at balancing tires or is there another issue here?

Thanks in advance for any help.

55-65 mph is a balance issue or there not properly torq the wheels. I own a tire and wheel shop been doing it for 10+ years. I balance all toyotas with pins on the balancer. As Toyota and Lexus can be sensitive. Pins as I call them are a disc with pins in them with the same bolt pattern as the wheel. It hold the wheel to the balancer as it would be held to the hub. You get a truer balance with it. Also are they using stick on wheel weights on knock on that clip to the lip?

I have been doing some research and read about the heweka adapter. Is this what you are talking about? Also how likely do you think it is that my tires are screwed up now?

    Yes.

And it would help if you stated what tires you're using. If Duratrac's, then good luck.

Yes that's what in talking about. Mine are a different brand but yes. These will hold the wheel to the balancer by the lug holes. I use these on all Toyota and Lexus that come I the shop especially if it has aftermarket wheels. I'm leaning to a miss balance just cause you said it went away till the rotation was done.

I still have the stock rugged trails. I just can't believe discount tire has a 25% success rate with my truck so far. That's pretty terrible considering their only job is to install and balance tires and wheels.

I had a similar problem with Americas Tire. I asked them to use a road force balance and it fixed it

There a chain store! I take a lil more time with my customers because I built my business from ground up. They just need to get you in and out so they can get on to the next one.

This will work too if they have a road force balancer
