With your pre-assembled hubs for a Pre-Runner, do I need to replace any seals? Or just bolt in the unit just like it is sent

Sorry, I didn't get tagged on this! The seals for the PreRunner are already part of the assembly!

I didn't buy Bama's assembly I bought the other guys,i don't see why anyone would buy the parts, hassle with the pressing, etc.they come assembled, ready to go.keep your old ones and rebuild them if you chose.a pre runner is worse.giant odd nut on the back, way easier to buy and replace.kinda like rebuilding a water pump, why?

My front bearings started making noise at about 100k. (The indication/noise was very faint constant whurring sound as you roll.) I also went to the stealership and they wanted $1000.00 to replace both front bearing/hub assemblies including labor. Naturally, I declined and decided to replace them myself. I used Youtube to guide me through the process. Was not difficult. However, I purchased the Hub/Bearing Assemblies from O'Reily's and they were not genuine Toyota Parts and they were much cheaper than the Genuine Toyota parts. But I installed them anyway. No problems so far after 40K more miles.

But if I have to do it again, I will purchase Genuine Toyota Parts, as that is the only non genuine parts on my truck. I would recommend someone like 'Olaythe Toyota' as they sell Genuine Toyota Parts at a considerable discount than the Stealerships. Do not replace one side, replace both sides.

    Good Luck

Does a bad wheel bearing in the Tacoma sound a low growling noise come into the cabin when the truck is cruising along? The noise is harmonic as the wheel speed changes.

McGeorge in VA is a very good OEM parts seller. Pretty good price on their metal parts. They had my order to me in 2 days, arrived Sunday....so they didn’t just pocket the stupidly high shipping charge.

    1. The noise from a failing wheel bearing is usually not harmonic but a constant sound that may increase with speed. It starts out very quietly and becomes louder as the bearing wears. This will continue to increase till the bearing totally fails and your wheel wobbles badly until your wheel completely falls off and you find yourself cart wheeling uncontrollably down the highway. ;-)

    2. Yes Olathe IS a Toyota Stealership,...er Dealership. But they have a Fine Parts Department that offers a fair discount on Genuine Toyota Parts. Usually 25% or more from my local Stealership. Fast Shipping too.

I was able to get over 5k miles with the bearing howl before mine would wiggle enough to know it wasn't the diff making the noise. ECGS kit on shelf till warmer weather

    Hey @BamaToy1997,

Just talked to the dealer. They said a pre-assembled hub (with a pressed bearing and seal) there would be a labor cost to press it into the knuckle. Can you tell me if that's accurate?

Sorry for hijacking the thread and/or if my question has been answered elsewhere.

I am guessing what they mean is that if you bring them the knuckle/spindle assembly and a new seal and bearing that they will just charge you the cost of pressing out the old bearing and pressing in the new one.

Disappointed with the experience I've had with an order from @BamaToy1997. The delayed receipt of my order cost me an extra $150 for an alignment that would have otherwise been included with my frame replacement. I would recommend finding a different vendor if you're considering a hub assembly replacement.

Sorry that you had a difficult time with the order. I try to get everything out as quickly as I possibly can.

    So, a follow-on question(s)...
    1. This seal that has been mentioned, is that the same seal that is talked about in terms of the ECGS bushing that requires a seal to be replaced?
    2. When the seal is referenced, is that a seal for both sides, driver, passenger? It seems that ECGS seal is only for the driver side?
    Thank you!
