I always liked Redline -- Baer Brakes use Redline exclusively in their brake systems.

Red line cv2 was my primary go to in regular passenger vehicles, but I'm trying an Amsoil NLGI 2 currently in my wife's car and guy I work with, his 3/4 ton Dodge truck I did with one side redline and other side Amsoil. So far so good, seems really good.

Like most big rigs today, having oil bath wheel bearings, I've often wondered if passenger vehicles would ever go that route. Even on a 1ton dually with what they can pull now a days and the milage you can put on them the benefit would be there. For us Tacoma people I guess greasing is what we have to do. Constant maintenance and keeping things clean plus installing thing right is definitely key.

@steveo27 , I bought my first hub from @BamaToy1997. He did me right!! He's good at what he does. I have about 30,000 miles on the first hub from Bill, with no problems. So when we bought a 2008 4runner to add to the toyota family in our house, I knew to uses the same hubs as my tacoma. I know its only time before I need to replace other hub, so I ordered another assembly and the parts to rebuild the old ones I take off. The turn around time was not bad at all. Bill has helpful with other problems I have had with my truck. He's taken the time out of his busy day to guide me through troubleshooting alternator not charging. Also, helped my get a new alternator, and explained how to easily replace it.

The way I see it for you is you can:

    1) buy your hubs from one of the two guys here on TW. (Both have a good track record)

    2) buy your hubs at the dealership of your choice.

    3) let your local mechanic replace them.

    4) buy the parts a press and try building your own hubs.

If you choice #4, good luck and just maybe you do a great job and become the third hub builder on here.

If you choice #3, I hope he takes the time to do it right.

If you go with #2, you sir have more money and time than I care to spend.

If its choice#1, just pick one of the two, and know your going to get a quality part. AND BE PATIENCE because, quality takes time.

I used @BamaToy1997 for my bearing. It came within a week to PA. Everything had plenty on grease and was ready to go. I even called to asked a few questions and Bill answered to my surprise. Firestone wanted to charge me $400. I got my part from bill and the socket all for $200. I drove 5000k on the wheel bearing hub assembly with no problems.

The same shit everyone else has.
    Lol.

I ended up ordering an eBay one built with a Koyo bearing and OEM parts for the same price as the ones listed on here. Ordered it Tuesday, it should be in my mailbox in about an hour.

I didn't have weeks to wait for a new one, mine went from a noticeable hum (on the way home from camping Sunday) to 100% fucked (on the way home from work yesterday) in less than a week/about 400 miles.

It's been making a slight hum for a while now but I never realized it until I did the ECGS bushing and I put new tires on the truck. I figured the noise was just the diff at first. The ECGS bushing quieted it down some, but it was still there. So I assumed it was the worn out Duratracs and just dealt with it for a while. I just Replaced the tires a few weeks back, hum still there. The bearing never showed any symptoms of being bad (other than the noise) - no vertical or horizontal play in the wheel, no grinding or difficulty spinning the hub by hand.

I needed one really fast as I can't afford to have the truck down for an unknown amount of time so I found one that was guaranteed to be delivered ASAP but still built with quality parts.

At this point, I have to trade a longer warranty period for quicker delivery period, which may come back to bite me in the ass but I'll deal with it if/when it happens.

My advice, order a set of hubs/bearings way BEFORE you think you need them so they are waiting for you when yours do go bad so you're not in a bind when they do go bad.

^^^^^ Glad you got a solution.

That's what I did, ordered 1 complete hub for backup. Plus, I ordered 2 sets of rebuild kits for my old hubs, as backup to the backup. But, I also have 4 of the same hubs on 2 different vehicles.

Digging up an old thread. Was the hum your wheel bearing?? I did ECGS bearing in my new diffs and now I have a hum. When I turn sharp right it goes away. Thinking that it’s the right hub and it gets quiet when the weight is taken off.

I got my front 4WD hub assemblies through Rockauto for like $140 CAD shipped to my door.
Website isn't beautiful, but the prices are awesome.
Replaced both my fronts and they are working great.

    Bump

FWIW, I ended up doing both front. A year and a half / 20k miles later and having no issues with the eBay assemblies. So far so good.

If anyone is hesitant on going this route, just chose a vender who has a high rating and uses reputable parts.
