Got the truck back, it's amazing how much quieter it is now. I'm still pretty disappointed in Toyota, can't believe the bearings failed after only 90,000 miles.

Glad to hear that everything worked out Kingston. I was pretty amazed at how quiet mine was too, i believe it is the quieter than when I bought it in 07. I still love my Tacoma though, that is pretty much the only thing I've done to the truck, other than regular maintenance.

Mine exploded on a road trip and the disc was grinding on the pad holder. It was 5 pm in rainy forks washington. It happened right as i pulled in to town. Took a turn in to a parking lot just so happened to be a small mechanics shop. we jacked it up and huge slop top to bottom. I asked him if there was a auto parts store He said yep they open till 530. It was 520, called, they had it, he raced me there and we stayed up till 11 getting it in, including driving to a log truck mechanics shop who was up all night to get the trucks ready for the next day to press it out. That guy saved my vacation for sure. That highway is real winding and I was kinda pushing the speed that night. the 33s just put too much on stress on it

Just not a Toyota thing. Seems almost all manufactures are have early failing bearings. Toyota doesn't make there own bearing and the bearing quality has been lag for the last 10 years.

Another question, after the work my abs light and Vsc light are now on, most likely one of the sensors is broken?

Is it just a simple unbolt old and bolt on new? No other electronics or programming?

Also, Amazon has beck arnley parts for about $100 each, are these good replacement parts?

Finally, should I replace both sides? How can I tell which side is causing the lights?

No programing necessary. Did you clear any codes you had before? Check and make sure they're plugged in all the way. The only way to diagnose is by retrieving the codes to tell which one is a problem.

Nothing better than the Toyota OE parts.

No codes, just the abs light and traction control light. I did try unplugging and plugging back in, no change.

Your going to have to pull the codes to see what the issue is.

Had this same issue with my 4Runner, you may need to do a "yaw" recalibration ... Either take it to Toyota and spend $150 or get a wire and jump it yourself, there are a ton of links/videos on how to do it yourself, resetting with a scanner is worthless, will come right back on when the car moves.

:thumbsup:Bumping this thread Bc I'm almost certain my driver's side wheel bearing is on the way out. I'm @ 125,000 miles, 2011 4x4 SR5. Sounds like tire hum in a straight line and left turns at speed. The noise clearly goes away if I turn to the right at speed which is why I think it's a bearing issue. There is also a slight vibrations Im starting to feel since I'm conscious of the sound now.

About to take a road trip in October to Big Bend State Park from central Texas so gonna need to do this repair next weekend. Gonna go ahead and do both sides. I'll start doing research on this DIY but anybody have any pointers/tips on performing this job???

    Much appreciated if you do.

I noticed my front was getting louder on my 12. Thought my ats were getting louder. I had a feeling it could be a bigger issue.

The sound really sneaks up on you. I thought it was my tires as well.

This might be my problem. Does this vibration noise have a pulse beat hum to it at certain higher speeds around 65/70mph. I definitely have tiny vibration on gas pedal at certain rpms.

It may, from what I have noticed is they can all sound a little different. Jack it up pull the wheel and feel for play in the hib and spin it and listen for any grinding noises

Yes to all those. Sounds like yours is just starting to fail, but don't wait too long to repair. If your doing one side, may as well do both. If one bearing fails, the other side is not far from failing as well.
Before you jump into changing bearings tho, have your wheels balanced, too rule that out.
The factory bearings have a tendency to fail between 95k-100k miles. How many miles does you're truck have?

I just went thru this on my 2011 with 99k miles.

Front passenger wheel bearing was the culprit. No play when jacked up but you could lightly feel it vibrate.

Yeah. I got 110k on mine now. Sucks cause I just installed new shocks and custom knuckles couple months ago. I thought it was my tires but definitely not the culprit. Has anyone gotten a bad rear wheel bearing before. I do know when I turn sharp to the right it goes away for a second
