Hello all you veterans of TW! I have wanted a Tacoma for many years and was always jealous of my cousin. I had a lame ass Mitsubishi Raider before. Now I finally have a Tacoma!! Dream come true! Anyway I know this topic has been covered here many times but I'm not exactly sure what wheel offset will look good on my new to me 2017 Inferno TRD Off Road named Charizard. I'm the 4th owner, (still low miles and actually in crazy immaculate condition) and I have no idea if I have a lift or leveling kit. But it definitely sits higher than stock. I see stock boiis driving around and Charizard here sits a bit higher. I might need your guys help identifying what I'm on. I know the Bilstein shocks are stock from Toyota I believe. It looks like the rear is sitting on a block, but the front I can't tell what's going on. It looks higher than stock.

Main question: I've been eyeing some fuel wheels and thought I was set on a -12mm offset, but reading other posts here, others are saying they have gone with +25 (OR stock), +13 (Pro stock), +1, etc, and it made me question whether a -12mm offset would stick out too far. I'm looking at these specifically.

What's the general consensus around here about the best looking offset option? Thanks TW! Thrilled to be a part of the family here now!

Is that just in the rear or is that in front too? Do you know how high that lift is?

To expand on this, it looks like a 2"/1" spacer lift.

Both front and back. Not sure how high but. Maybe 2 inches to 2.5. Your cv boots look good. If it was higher than this, the cv boots will look bad
BTW congratulation on your new taco. You'll love it. Enjoy driving it first and modify as needed.

    Thanks!

Appreciate it! Yeah that is a good mentality to have. I know I need a bed rack for kayaks/paddle boards, but wheels and tires just completely change the look of it! Seems like a must. I've taken it on an 8 hr drive already and man, I tell ya, the transmission problems are REAL. Cruise control is worthless. It will rev up to 3500+ rpms on even the slightest incline. Without cruise control, the same hill will require like 2200 rpm to maintain speed. I wanna get the OV tune but I need to do more research and read more posts on here about its pros/cons. Only other thing that bothers me about the 3rd Gen is cabin storage and space. My cousin has a 2nd Gen and his cup holders are bigger, more storage on both sides of steering wheel, etc. I can't fit a coffee mug in my damn cup holders. Anyway. Thanks for replying! Appreciate the input.

Sick truck dude! Love the all black vibe.

Idk dude but do your research thoroughly. I kinda just went on a whim how I normally do things hell that’s how I got the truck. But the dude at the tire shop assured me I wouldn’t rub on my set up and guess what I rub on the upper control Arms. I went with a 285/65/18x9 with a +18 offset

Now I’m stuck whether to throw on some spacers and potentially rub somewhere else or swapping upper control arms

So, I don't know anything, but wouldn't a more negative offset wheel fix that problem? Like a +0 or even a -12 like I'm looking at? Wouldn't that take the wheel further out from the UC arm and achieve the stance you're looking for? And possibly solve the rubbing issue?

Yes it should. I don’t know how much the width of the wheel also plays a role. He told me to go with a 9” wheel to achieve that stance and that most wheels that are that wide are 9” wide are 18” wheels and the 17s they had in the store that were 9” well I didn’t like. With your offset you may have to trim. I didn’t have to do any trimming on my fenders or anything or even remove my mud flaps but that would’ve paled in comparison to what I may have to do now.

    @310tacoma

You rubbing cab mount or anywhere?

You can try a 3/4" wheel spacer. That'll put you at -1 offset. Which should clear a stock UCA. Not an aftermarket one like JBA though.

Just worry about rubbing though with 285 and no CMC. Actually I think you'll rub without cmc and a high caster.

if you were already complaining how your stock size tire drives then I’d recommend KDmax 6.0 tune first before bigger heavier tires. It’s like you have a different truck. Those problems if your truck is not tuned will just get more pronounced. Pm @PapaRee , @TWTaco , or @trdquoc . They’ll help you set up to the nearest taco guy .

JuSt the upper control arm. I feel it’s solely because of my offset. I think a spacer should remedy it but it sucks because now I’m looking at what an extra 120 or so. That’s why I advise op to do extensive research and not be like me.

Awesome! I've been looking for someone to reach out to about tuning, because I haven't found anyone that does the OV tune in the Tampa Bay area.

Did you experience any rubbing with the -12mm offset wheel? If so, where? I was under the impression that the more negative offset you have it will make it less likely to rub but I think I'm wrong lol. Would it be better to go with a 0 offset and try spacers or just go with a -12 mm offset wheel? I'm looking at 17x9s

There are 2 main places tires rub, the upper control arm, and the body mount. Negative offset will help with control arm rubbing but make body mount rubbing worse.

Ah. Any recommendations on what to get? I need to do a lot more research before deciding.

That depends heavily on your plans for the truck, tire sizes, lift, etc.

Yeah that's what this thread was about. I was trying to figure out what lift I had. Supposedly around 2" spacer lift. And I'm looking at 17x9 wheels. 33ish inch tires. I would like the tires to stick out a tad on the side, but not too much.

Since you're looking into wider rims I'd read up on the difference between offset and backspacing and how they relate to one another with different wheel widths.
