Thanks Time, these pictures help out a lot. Seems like the 17" is a bit large and 16" might just be the sweet spot for the truck. The only reason we were looking at 17's is due to wheel style. My son's truck and he wanted specific wheel and his second and third choices were also 17's. Wish they made them in a 16" or even a 15".

Now to find a nice 16" that he likes. Appreciate the pictures.

Regardless of wheel size, you should be more concerned about the backspacing and offset. Wrapping your head around that will enable you to select a wheel that wont cause fitment issues.

Yup, I am 265/75/16. Overall diameter and width are the same as yours, I just have a little more sidewall. I went with 16s specifically to clear the tundra brakes.

    OME and worth every penny.
Remember about brakes the poster said AT LEAST 16". as the Tundra had 16"s but 17's clear them also.
BTW, those brakes really do work. Mine will now nearly stand on it's nose on concrete. I bet on a downslope....hmmm.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

    17s

    Better tire selection
    Better wheel selection
    I think they look better
17s are normally cheaper (relatively speaking vs 16)
They will fit Tundra brakes (if you so choose to do that upgrade = 16 required)
They will ALSO fit Lexus brakes (if you so choose to do that upgrade - bigger than Tundra = 17 required)

All very valid points. You make a compelling argument, especially since the wheels he wants are 17's and there are no 16's he likes.

I'm digging this set up. Are the tires 70's or 75's.

"Custom" 3in Flowmaster Super 50 Series cat back. J&L catch can. AMP Powersteps
Yokohama Geolandar GO15s on 17s would be my vote. Probably 265/70/17.

IMG_5434.jpg I love the TRD runner wheels, I’m about to put them on my 1st Gen Tundra, but they (17’s) look like 20’s on the 1st Gen taco’s.

I’m moving back down to C Rated on mine. The E Rated (AKA forever tires) ride pretty rough even at 26psi, and they are fairly heavy.

    Clapped out suspension with ~340k, 265/75r16’s E-Rated KbrO2’s.

I agree with this. 17" wheel will give you the best tire selection by far. I wish more tire mfgs made tires for a 16" wheel, though. I just love the look of a smaller wheel w/ a large tire. Not to mention the additional sidewall benefit!

I would also consider the load range when it comes to the tire, as that will greatly influence tire weight. I opted for a C load BFG K02 and have loved them. I wheel my truck pretty hard all over CO and Utah and have had a great experience with C Load as well and my BFG K02s!

I have the Toyota Chrome Clad wheels on mine. They are 18” just in case you want to upgrade later , LOL ! Tires are 265/60R18 no rubbing with a 3” lift .

The 2003 DC I have now came to me in 2017 with 17" FJ Cruiser wheels. I swapped them to the original 16" wheels from my departing 2001 DC, which the truck has on it currently, running BFG KO (not yet KO2) 235/85-16 with an ARB OME suspension kit (about 2" lift).
