Have a question to all, i am in middle of my overland (2016 trdoffroad) build machine for my alaska trip and working on suspension part of things and plan to up the tires to 285/70/17 however i know in current setup(default) it will rub uca and i am leaning to go ether icon stage 4 or kings with total chaos uca, so my question is regardless of lift does one still need to install wheel spacers to fit larger wheel size, and for 2016 do u need to do any serious modding of the wheel well?

What is the backspacing of your wheels?

forgive my ignorance can you clarify what you mean by backspacing? my rims are trd pro style ones so what ever default spacing they have is what i got, when i check my uca clearance its less than an inch and same when it come to the cab wall so wonder if there is mod for wheel well mods too.

Well if you are running stock Toyota wheels then the backspacing is probably zero. Backspacing on aftermarket wheels can be used to give you more space between the suspension components and the wheel, thus allowing for either slightly larger tires or less "rub" on the same sized tire.
