Yeah I practiced on a hub / bearing assembly in my scrap metal pile before doing it on the truck. Came out surprisingly easy. Didn't have to unwrap my ChiCom SDS rotary hammer.
I used the same Dorman P/N, held up fine almost a year and three wheeling trips later. The Dorman comes zinc plated, which is more corrosion resistant than the black oxide coated Paulin studs sold at my local parts store.

Part of the issue is using a breaker bar. No matter how careful you are, you will get some side load from it. This is why I always use an impact gun with a set of torque sticks. I've never had a stud break from me putting on or taking off wheels. Even a set of these would work great:

    hmmm,
makes me wonder if the wheel studs are "made in China"? like most everything today, we all get what we pay fer

Are better wheel studs available? If so, anybody have a link / brand ?

I usally just fire up the weed wacker for about a min, the fumes keep them out of the garage and they dont like the noise. Then piece and quiet while I work on my rig.

    It's been a while, but IIRC H&R PN# 1253544 (I purchased a little longer than OEM)

Agreed with the info. The only thing I would add is to pick up a nut and a deep well socket to pull the studs through. I've seen people use their wheel and lug nuts, but you risk messing them up with the soft aluminum wheel. Something like this in a 10x1.5

Be sure to read up on the use of torque sticks. They aren't precision devices. They're meant to get you "close" to the prescribed value. You're still supposed to use a torque wrench after getting them "close".

Correct, but they will prevent you from over torquing them and then you're just dialing in the last little bit.

I mean... it took Toyota, a HUGE company, three tries to finally get the Tacoma right. I don't feel too bad making two attempts.

I have owned a lot of vehicles over the yrs including several 1st gen tacos and never broke a stud, then when I got my 06 second gen I started breaking studs too, couple of them so far, I still have a "extra" new stud from dealer in case of another failure, recently I bought a big torque wrench to use tightening bolts on the wheels. Metals sure aren't what they used to be. Too much reclaimed steel probably.
