Posted this in Wheels & Tires and I’m getting a whole lot of nothing in response. So trying this here in this forum as my truck is a 3rd Gen.:

I’ve tried to get an understanding via the numerous threads here and “the goog” but I’m trying to determine the following:

    I have a 2018 TRD OR 4x4 DCSB auto coming this week. Stock wheel/tire set-up is 16x7, ET25, on 265/70-16 tires.

Now I’ve read you “can’t use 275 [or 285] tires on a stock suspension without modification.” And that’s it. Is that to mean with the factory wheels? Wouldn’t the wheel offset (and possibly wheel width too) have some factor on what tire width you can and cannot use without modification to the factory suspension? Maybe I’m missing something…

Anyway, so my question is [1] would I be able to install the following set-up without modification?

    Wheel: 18x9, ET-12
    Tire: 275/60-18

[2] If not, would changing the offset to 0mm or 1mm (on 18x9) allow for installation with that tire size?

Or is it [3] no matter what the offset, you cannot run a 275 wide tire on a 2018 TRD OR?

    Thanking in advance.

Oh you can run it just depends how much your are willing to cut.

    I run a 285 70 17 on a 0mm offset.
But you'll need to do a body mount cut and trim some plastic usually.

I'm guessing with an 18, you're not thinking of off road use and just mall crawl so could probably have very limited rub. At fully stuffed you will definitely rub. And you'll need enough back spacing to clear suspension

Thanks Joe. I'm thinking I'll go with a 0mm or 1mm offset and the 275/60-18 tires and should be fine. Overall diameter is only increasing about .5" but further outward about 1". Backspacing on 18x9 with 1mm offset is 5" which is slightly longer than the OEM wheels (4.98").

At that you will almost definitely need a body mount chop.

Huh? People are driving with 18x9 with 0mm offset with even larger tires (275/65-18) without any modifications.

I would think an offset the same or +1mm difference along with smaller sidewalls (60) would mean even less of a chance of rubbing.

    What am I missing here?

Get it aligned and have your lca on max + caster.

there is no consistency with these trucks. some will run that very tire and have no issues others will.

the problem is width and you're moving further out. when turning you're likely to rub on body mount.
Those telling you they are running with larger than that with no modifications are either only driving in a straight line or ignoring the fact they are rubbing.

Put the tires on and see .You might need to just trim plastic or cut body mount.

    My 265 70 17 rubbed plastic.
    My 285 70 17 rubbed a whole lot more.
This was 3.7 degrees of caster and 2" lift with 285 with 1/4 turn
    20180314_182435.jpg

This is now after cutting body mount and a shit load of plastic with 2.5" lift I still rub with flex
    20180401_145452.jpg

    I know it's 285 but width wise it's only 5mm difference
I also had to hammer pinch weld flat but this is a 33" tire
width is a killer for tires on these trucks.

if you dont want to risk needing to cut dont get anything wider/taller than a 265 70 17 or 265 75 16.

Unless you run a 255 85 16 on stock Off road wheels and suspension. Otherwise you may rub body mount.

This is my 2.75” lift, Cooper Stt Pro 285/70r17 and without cmc. Purely alignment setup, btw no rub at full flex too. Gonna jump on a 315/75 in the near future.

And this just shows how inconsistent these trucks are because even with 3.6 degree caster I had to cut a bunch with the same size tire.

I’m down to +1.7 caster. I have spc uca and if you follow their adjustment diagram you will rub so I went opposite and have my setting on “G”.

They make adjustable ones but mine aren't.

The ones they make that are adjustable do not stand up to the winters here so went with the non adjustable ones.

Understood. I guess I'll consider 265 width with my 18x9 wheel.

    Thanks guys.
