hey y'all, i need new tires for my '98 1st Gen, i'd like to go bigger, and i am having trouble figuring out what will / won't work on my truck. i don't know much about tires & wheels so i'm learning as i go— go easy on me.

so far, my research has told me that 265/70/16 is the largest tire size that will fit without a lift (i am not interested in lifting my truck). my current tire size is 255/70/14. (see current tires/wheels below)

i found a VERY good deal on some Pathfinder All Terrains (265/70/16) on Pro Comp Rock Crawlers (16 x 8), but after getting them home i realized that they won't work because they are 6-lugs and my truck is set up for a 5-lug wheel. also apparently Rock Crawlers don't fit on 1st gens anyway because they interfere with the brake calipers. :( rookie mistake. (see tires & wheels i purchased below)

if i were to find a set of 16" wheels set up for 5 lugs, could i put the Pathfinder tires on those and put them on my truck?

i am on a major budget so i'm trying to figure out how to get this whole thing sorted by spending the least amount of money possible.

apologies in advance for my ignorance about this / whatever i said in my post that was incorrect/inaccurate, like i said, i'm figuring it out as i go. i appreciate any help any of your more knowledgable folks can provide.

    thanks!

    -VC

p.s. if you live in the SF Bay Area and want to buy these wheels, let me know! o_O

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
You can also sell those 6 lug wheels to Chevy truck people. IMO stick with stock size tires ( I know it doesn’t sound glamorous but your wallet will thank you) then run ‘em bald. Good luck sorting it out, Vic!

10" sub, OME881 on Bilstein's, 3" all-pro leaf springs with billies in the back, JBA UCA's, bed cover with custom LED lighting, k&n intake and DT headers, OEM E-locker in the rear. 32" BFG KO2 on steel D window wheels, suicide knob. rebuilt 3RZ w/ stage 1 cam and balance shaft delete . big 3 mod, all new suspension and body mount bushings. cat back magnaflow exhaust.
so I just bought a set of vision 16x8 wheels and have the same issue with the caliper hitting that bulging area around the lug openings.

what are us first gen guys supposed to do to get cheap steel off road wheels?
