wheel/tire question--i'm desperate!

    hey all, recently had a toytec ULK installed on my '11 TRD sport 4x4 double-cab--3"front, 2.5 rear.stock wheel/tire combo are the 265/65/17 6-lug but seriously considering american racing earnhardt jr. cannons @ 18". been researching max wheel package combos can go with without serious rubbing/trimming and ability to keep mudflaps. don't anticipate much off-road,just appreciate the "beefy stance" of a moderately lifted taco:cool:still confounded re:backspacing,offset,tpms issues.........even after researching here for some time. noticed 285's were popular here but a local dealer said he thought they would look small w/ this lift and recommended 305's but stated i would lose the flaps and should consider aftermarket fender flares for protection. so any idea what max numbers i can achieve considering everything mentioned? any and all input appreciated!!!!!:)

    Even with 285s (285/65/18) in your case, and properly backspaced wheels (4.5"), you are still looking at mudflap removal, a good amount of fender well trimming, and a possible cab mount chop to avoid rubbing. 305's will require a lot more cutting.

    I'd say go 285's. You will have to do some cutting and almost certainly lose the mud flaps. Regardless of what you decide I REALLY want to see pictures of those wheels on a black truck. Those in 17" are on my wish list!

    That is a big tire! I'm not very good with the specs other than doing my lift but I would not recomend a tire that big.

    so based upon responses thus far, should i stick with the OEM numbers===265/65/17 which i have seen done here onTW. Really? i desperately crave the max setup i can achieve yet maintaining the flaps----having a black truck i've learned black is the arguably the best color going but man, it's a b**** keeping her clean! any further input appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    We told you dude...265/70R17 if you want to do 0 trimming and keep your mud flaps....285's will require you to remove them and trim your inner fender and you still would probably rub on the UCA...so stick with the 265's and you will be good.
    A 265 is a 32" tire, 285 is a 33" tire and you stock setup is a 31" tire.

    I have 285 on stock 17" rims and had to ONLY remove mud flaps.

    Well dude, I've spoken w/ someone knowledgeable here running a 3" lift and riding 285's And 18 inchers who was able to keep the flaps and no trimming. Thanks anyway.....

    Don't know how I missed the part about running 18's..I don't where I got 17 from. Anyways, all of these trucks are going to be different but the majority of them that run 285's on a 3" lift rub and require some minor trimming. If you think you won't rub then go for it man...or just have some 285's test fitted to be on the safe side.

    afe pro dry, weather tech floor liners,5100's on all four corners@ 0, eibach 620 coils. toytec 3/4" spacer driver/s & passenger/s, rear spring tsb w/toytec 1" blocks, 4runner sport wheels, in channel vent visors, 1.25 spidertrax wheel spacers on the front, Wet Okole's, smity tow hook.
    if your still thinking of running 305's you may want to read this: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/members/especk.html its a langthy thread but some where in it he talks about thaving to do a cab mount chop cutting the fenders ect. grandted its a ome lift but you may run into the same issues.

    Yeah...I don't see how someone could not rub with 285's on a 3" lift...even with the coils cranked as high as they can go....still seems like your going to rub something. I saw one guy one here who said he wasn't..until he took a further look!

    ProComp 3"lift, LR UCA's,Destination 285/70/17's, 1.25 spidertrax, K&N drop in, 2nd filter removed, Dynomax catback, Weathertech liners,Toyota bed mat, Silverstar Ultra's, reverse lights,Wet Oklee's,bedlights and other small stuff.
    I have a 3 inch lift with 285's on the 17" sports and I had to trim. You could see the rub marks on the inner fender. I only removed the front flaps.

    whoa fellas, no ignoring intended, just trying to get a feel for the max setup i can run and still keep the flaps. again, keeping the vehicle clean and hopefully fairly scratch-free, particularly here in illinois where they love to spread coarse sand with the rocksalt in the winter months , the flaps for me are important. thanks again for the input. it is appreciated!!
