    Hey Guys,

I'm looking to the future, my next modification. I'd like to do a lift kit, but need some information first. I'm a numbers guy so I just gotta know...What is the stock 4x4 wheel travel in the front vs an OME setup? Typically measured from the hub to the fender for consistency and to rule out other differences such as tires/wheels.

    A inches up stock
    B inches down stock

    X inches up OME
    Y inches down OME

Has anyone measured before and after on their truck? I found some numbers but they were from different trucks which makes it hard to compare (different loads, etc).

Anyone have these numbers? Be sure to include if you had any extra weight and what springs you used.

Boring part - I believe these would be measured by noting the length from the hub to fender on the ground then:

#1 Compressing the truck to the bump stopper for the up measurement (up because its the wheel traveling up). The difference of the two numbers should be the up travel.
#2 Lifting up the truck with a jack and noting the droop. The difference of the two numbers should be the down travel.

    I would appreciate it!

    Thanks!

    Stock. For now.
Everything I have learned about ome says the shocks are the same as stock. And every inch of height you add is a inch less travel than stock.

So if I add 2.5 inches of lift, thats 2.5 inches less down travel, but 2.5 more up travel?

What about with aftermarket UCA'S ? Thought that gave you more travel? And as far as I know with the ome, it's the same travel as before just not as much down travel because your already 2+ already up (or down if your speaking travel wise)

Your shock extended down would be the same, yes. But what about the up? And aftermarket uca's?

Front wheel travel is limited by your ball joints + cv joints. OME coilovers won't increase your usable wheel travel unless you get aftermarket UCAs, but iuf you increase it more than an inch or so you'll have issues with your CV joints... Also the OME shock will be the limiting factor. King ET coilovers give you maybe another inch in conjunction with UCAs, but again... CV joints...

So the overall travel is the same, but a OME lift just trades down travel for up travel? aka more compression, less expansion?

Exactly. I don't know the numbers, but had an OME kit, now have kings.

The major manufacturers of high-performance suspension parts are King, Fox, Icon, Walker-Evans, ADS (maybe more)... I love them. Spend a couple months on here and you'll learn ALL about them... Welcome to TW!

Thanks. I'm just tired of bashing my lower control arms into the bump stops. I don't think I need long travel, just more compression travel. My fear is that I will somehow damage the suspension with the limited down travel as a result of a lift. As for just slowing down so I don't bottom out the suspension...NO WAY MAN! :burnrubber:

I'm not the expert on LT, but if you like to hit stuff fast, it may be a good way to go... One good thing about the OME setup, it's pretty cheap, so don't feel bad/worry about bottoming or topping out your shocks, just worry about what that might do to your spindles/cam tabs, coil buckets etc.... Good bumpstops are a good start

Thanks dude. Yeah, I am in the process of replacing my lower control arms at the moment. The bushings are toast and the area that impacts the bump stops look like a musical steel drum! Are there aftermarket bump stops, can you point me to a couple?

Thanks. I also bent the frame mount. My best detective work suspects a rock got the best of it.

Removing that swaybar will also get you more free wheel articulation

Yeah, I have considered removing the sway bar. The truck doesn't see many non-wheeling miles anymore since I work from home.

My plan is to heat that mount up good and hot using a torch. Then try to reshape it to match the other side as best I can.

Also - skid plates on my truck have lived up to their name...

I'm not trying to hit stuff, contrary to how it looks, but sometimes you just need to clear an obstacle that requires a little bit of skidding. Other times something sneaks up on you. "yeah, I clear that...crunch!...nope!"

    Stock. For now.
Also.told you'll sacrifice something with ome. Read here about people who'sshocks clank going over speed bumps while in a parking lot. Check out @HeadStrong Off-Road its a great place. I went the extended travel fox myself.
