I just got my truck. The first thing I want to do is get rid of the chrome wheel well liners. My question is should I paint them black or take them off?

    I'd paint them black...
could help keep the fender paint from getting
chipped up from errant rocks and gravel

Paint them black or just seek 98-00 flares.

    Should screw right in.

just take them off. My 97 had those same trim pieces. They have clips that screw into the wheel well liners.

They aren't worth taking off and painting...IMO...and the truck looks better without them..IMO

My 2000 Tacoma has the same chrome fender linings. When you say that the 98-00 flares will screw on, I'm a bit confused as my truck is a 2000 and this is what it came with. Can you elaborate any? Sorry for my ignorance.

My bad. I guess they're technically TRD flares? They should still just screw right in though.

Are those TRD flares metal or plastic?

paulbunyan, when you took them off was there any adhesive or similar underneath. I'm planning on taking mine off soon (haven't decided to paint them or keep them off) but was wondering what's underneath them. I'd love to black them out but think the paint might not stick too well and chip later down the road. thanks.

flexdaddy, if i take them off and decide to leave them off you can have my chrome ones as long as you pay shipping. I'll keep ya posted.

no there was no adhessive. The bolts unterneath the wheel well hold it in place. I think theres about 5 bolts per wheel well. Yah I don't think their worth painting
