Ive been trying to figure this out but cant come up with too good of an answer. Does wheel width make the tire look any different or make it any larger? For example... would an 18x10 wheel make a tire look wider and flatter sidewall compared to the same width tire with a 18x8 making the tire look a little more round? Sorry if it didnt make too much sense, its hard to explain. Thanks

Wheel width needs to be matched to tire size, otherwise the tread can get distorted from sidewall not conforming to spec, causing uneven wear across the tread...

To answer your question, the tire may appear wider, but it will not be 'bigger'....

You see a lot of this on low riders, wider rim with skinny tires for 'the look', would I trust it on a long freeway trip, hella no...

I am sure others will chime in sooner or later, everyone has an opinion to share...

    Hope this answers your question...

A smaller width wheel on a wider tire will give the sidewall more "bulge" and make everything appear to be wider. On this jeep I had 10" wide wheel & a 15.5" wide tire.....the bulging sidewall makes them look wider than they actually are.

OK thanks guys... i plan on getting 305 wide tires and they are about 12.44" wide with either 9" or 10" wide wheels and i was making sure they tire wouldn't have much bulge to it. I assume both of these wheel widths should be very similar without much bulge.
