So I have a wheelers 3 leaf AAL/rear billy 5100 to install. I have read the DIY here on TW but the only question I have is the wheelers AAL has a long and short end. From the center pin to one end of the leaf is about 15" and center pin to the other end is about 18". Which end faces the front or rear my guess is that the longer end faces towards the rear? Is this correct? Thanks in advance.

This thread. Post #165 From Chris 4x4...."longer end goes to the rear". This is also a good DIY write up from Chris.

One pointers from my install. When you install a new center pin for the leaf, make sure the head of the new center pin is longer than stock. The reason for this is if, in the future, you need to install axle shims to fix vibrations, the centering pin stock on my truck did protrude out enough to pass through the shim and engage the hole in the axle brackets. I ended up having to get new centering pins from Toytec that used a washer to make it stick out more before I could install my shims.

Here is a picture of what I'm talking about and here is the thread discussing it....http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/suspension/144224-dakar-installation-axle-shims.html

Thanks for the help I did not find that thread when I had searched. That took care of my questions.

Does the 3 Leaf require any additional mods like extended shocks, extended or relocated brake line/parking brake?

To get extended droop it would be good to run longer shocks like 5100s. I would also recommend disconnecting the first parking brake line mount to support full droop. Neither are required for street use, but still would be a good idea.
