If you have 4 leaf TSB then you need to cut, if you have the 3 leaf then you shouldn't need to.

3 leaf OEM pack died in 2013 model year. The 2014+ all have 4 leaf packs on all trim models.

I'd assume if you have 2 spring clamps on the rear of the stock pack that you'll have to remove one. If you don't, you won't.

That's a pretty good rule of thumb on what to expect to need to do.

I have the 4 leaf (3+overload), and I did not have to cut anything.

I have 2 clamps on each end and did not need to trim anything.

Is that the TSB 4 leaf or your original 4 leaf from 2009?

The TSB leafs are the leafs that likely need cutting, since they added a second clamp.

Almost every post I've seen if you have 3+1 you have to cut. But I think I remember one that they said it did not interfere and they didn't have to cut anything. So maybe there was a batch that didn't require cutting.

3+1 recall leaf packs, installed a couple of months ago.

    Without AAL (two rear brackets)

With AAL (just makes it, no trimming)

That sucks. Was hoping that was the deciding factor as opposed to no standardized clamp placement.

    Kind of silly, Toyota.

Thanks for all the feedback. I guess the answer is still 'maybe' on whether or not I'll encounter this problem. I'll be sure to check before beginning the install.

Another question for you guys...is there anything I should prep the AAL's with (spray, paint, etc) before putting them on?

If there's any rust I'd address it with a wire brush and some paint but otherwise bolt in and goooooo.

Yes, brush the rust off. I also took the opportunity to soak the leafs with white lithium grease when everything was apart.

Like other members said, I wire brushed mine, painted them, and then added marine grease between each layer. Has kept rust to a minimum and have not had any squeaks since installed over a year ago.

What did you use to paint them?

I installed the wheelers 3 leaf AAL on my 2015 with 3+1 springs. The clips on the factory overload leaf interfered with the clips on the AAL, so I just pulled the overload and didn't need to grind. Some of the clips are close to hitting each other, but never touch even at full droop/compression.

Interesting. If I recall the instructions say to remove the overload leaf, but I've heard of others keeping it in for the extra 1/2" or so of lift. I don't think mine would have interfered. Glad your leaf clips didn't interfere!

I also saw that some people kept the overload while most ditched it. It seemed weird to leave it in because of the way it would hit the smaller leaves above it.
