I emailed the manufacturer of these springs about the overload leaf being left in because I was curious about leaving them in. They emailed me back and specifically said that the overload was not to be reinstalled. They said if the aal had been installed with the overload to take it apart and remove it.

My install was for the wheelers 3 leaf aal, icon may be different.

Any reason why? Without the overload the 2014 I did today wouldn't have gotten 1.5" lift. With overload in I think he got just about that, but it hasn't even settled yet.

Leaving overloads in is ok I'd think, all it is is a block basically anyway. Has to chop the front retainer clip on the overload to install though. I'd only leave it out if they upgrade the aal maybe. The 3 lead aals on my truck are maybe a couple years old now, wheelers has since changed either who they buy from or what they get.

The wheelers, icons, and one other are made by the same company. The 3 leaf aal added to the factory leaves is what gives you lift. Sure, if you shove the overload in, youll gain the thickness of the overload. The rivets and the leaf clamp can pinch between the overload and lower leaf pushing the leaves apart. That happens because they were designed to not be used with the overloads.

Yeah that makes sense, I was just mentioning how they don't seem to give 1.5" lift without the overload. Maybe they would depending on how worn out the leaf packs already are also though-the truck from yesterday previouslyrics had 1.75" blocks(I removed them for the aal install) which don't help any.

The 3 piece AAL bolted to brand new (2,000 street miles) 4 leaf factory springs worked well for 30,000 miles over two years. Now the springs have sagged a full inch and need to be replaced. The AAL was a good temporary solution, but I don't think it's worth it for an older leaf pack. Part of me wishes I would have spent the extra $350 for OME dakars from the start.

Right, aals are temporary for the most part. Today I transferred my older 3 leaf aal pack to some brand new, never used toyota frame replacement leafs I had gotten from the frame replacement. Also put the overload on with no problems like the newer version had. I'll post up for reference what amount of lift I got.

I'll be changing out the aal for either entirely new leafs or taking some Chevy leaf springs cut to size and used as better aals.
