I'm looking for some insight as to which version of Wheelers 3-leaf AAL to mount on my '07 Tacoma DBLCLB 4x4. Up front, I have 5100's set at 1.75. Rear is stock 3-leaf with 5100's. The truck is a daily driver used primarily on the road, with maybe an occasional dirt road/trail thrown into the mix rarely. Current set-up yields a slight (1 inch) bro lean. I'd like to bring the truck up to level or maybe slight rake, while not compromising the ride drastically. I also tow a 21ft. Chaparral on a dual axle trailer a couple times a month. Estimated tow weight is 5000#. When it's in tow the truck takes on some serious sag.

I'm leaning towards the HD version from Wheeler's but I'm open for some suggestions. In the future I'm looking to replace the Chaparral with a Striper of similar size. Dry weight difference isn't that great (~200#) but fuel capacity goes from 50 to 100 gal. I'm estimating my tow weight will be more in the 5500 to 5800 range. I'm thinking that will lock me into the HD version.

    Let the info flow.

Question, would Dakars be out of your budget? I'm just wondering since you're towing that much a couple times a month, a new leaf pack might be a better option. You can also add a leaf to the Dakar pack for a little more height and increased load carrying. Just a thought.

Dakars would be a bit more lift than I want and , if I'm not mistaken, would require new shocks and extended lines.

I'm leaning towards the HD AAL to try and preserve the stock ride on a daily basis.

    Thanks for the input.

I know your asking about a second generation butI had a set of the HD's on a first generation and I liked them a lot. They only raised the truck about an inch but they did increase the payload. It would still have a front rake with a Yamaha Grizzly 450 in the back and OME coils up front. The ride was much stiffer but still comfortable until I went to E load tires(they didn't last long). I would buy them again for my second generation but I am happier with my Firestone airbags. Hope this helps a little...

I have the HD AAl right now with stock overload removed and the ride quality is good. Handles my dirtbikes + gear which is about 500-550 lbs not problem at all.

Thanks for all the info. Based on what I've read here I'm thinking the HD AAL will suit my needs. I'll be calling Wheeler's soon and see if they have any further input. Thanks to all.

Have a look at wheelers full leaf pack. I have the same truck as you and went with front 5100's set at 1.75 and the full leaf pack in the back with 5100's. Got a 2 inch lift out of the rear with them and the ride is great.
