Currie lead time is 7-8 weeks. I may just order gears and then sell my new regeared rear end when I order from currie. I desperately need gears. I'm tired of this thing being gutless

Right. agreed. I am gearing my front to 4.56 so i need to match up to that. 37 - 40's are in the future when I SAS the truck. Hence why I am building up the rear end to spend the money once.

yep 4.56. Very minimal difference. 7% between the two. I'll take 7% less gearing for higher ring and pinion strength.

It's looking that way. I'm trying to figure out if I'm just an idiot and can't read but I can't seem to find the option for 4.56 on currie's website. just 4.57 and 4.86....

If 37s go at least 5.29s if doing a big ol fat axle. These motors love to rev.

all set up with truss support, just call it $5k but it is a semi float and uses stock brakes and keeps ABS sensor.

Not sure. Most likely to 17. But most beadlocks are 17 and better tire options go along with it tio

Todays completed prep, cleaned and inspected front end, new upper uni-balls installed, applied grease to all fittings, all bolts torqued. Just over 3 hours of work, not to bad.

the biggest advantage to the Currie Axle is that they retain the ABS Tone Ring and you keep your Stability control, traction control, abs and a-trac. All become pretty much obsolete off road but I would hate to loose ABS for street driving. A-trac is never used again once you are front and rear locked. Also, my dash would be lit up like Christmas year round. These may not bee a concern for you because of your 3rd gen runner. This is also the same issue I will have if/when I SAS the tacoma and still want to keep it streetable.

Ford 9" seems like the way to go. If I order a custom built axle, it will be the currie because of the reasons just listed above and I'll pony up the cash. If i go budget route, hello junk yard 9" and rebuilt it to fit in under the truck.

For off road reliability concerns and remote camping, the Toyota 8" has to go.

Haha your crazy dude. You should see how clean my trimming is. Angle grinder could never get close to what I did.

I'm not sure how small of an area you are working in.

Most exterior stuff I just go angle grinder. My whole rear glass was free hand angle grinder. Going to trim the front with the cut off wheel and flap disk.

All good options. I'm not a fan of the 14 bolt. never have been.

Besides, can stock tacoma brakes really lock up 40's while coming to a stop? lol and yes, keeping those things with 40's seems pointless. but I still want to keep it streetable as must as possible. That being staid, if/when I solid axle I'll probably run 37's. still want to keep this rig as my camping rig and not have to trailer it everywhere for weekend crawling.

Unless I scrap all that and buy some long travel junk... or go buy a jeep.............
