Yup last year during one of the many snow storms they had, I couldn’t find any chains that fit my tires, so I just bought some that were smaller just in case they asked. I came back and just returned them.

It's been a fucking nightmare for me lately...outer passenger one snapped a few weeks ago and it was a huge pain to replace, then my fiancé went to open my truck the night we just got done doing Pilot Rock and the driver's side snapped and it took all my strength to keep my cool, haha. I was more just angry at the sheer bad luck...that both fucking handles have lasted 14 years and then decide to both break one right after the other.

Then this happens last night while fixing that handle....I'm over handles too

Nope, the door is taken apart which means I had to unplug all the electronics...that door is a bitch and a half to get off with the clips that love to break so it's staying off until the new handle is on

lol my fiancé asked me the same thing, and to be honest I initially thought I could do that too until I remembered about the power windows. Makes me wish I had the hand crank ones like my '99 Prerunner had.

I could just plug the harness back into the power window/lock switches for the time being, but then that assembly would just be dangling precariously in the wind like an old man's balls and the last thing I want is to have to fix is some wiring, which I'm terrible at

I’m not opposed to this. I’m not a huge fan of chains to begin with but I’d rather stay on the legal side and at least have a set with me.

I get what you’re saying but looking at the big picture, it’s a huge liability and can cost lots of money to the state to not have this stuff implemented. I’m all for you being your own idiot, but if it starts to cause issues where EMS has to constantly be called out, then i get it.

I can also tell you from last year and the large amount of Prius’ going up the mountain that there are plenty of idiots out there and I’m not going to fall in that category.

This is what my major concern would be. I wouldn’t use them, but if I did have an issue and got a ticket for not having them that would suck.

Yeah when I was up there in January of 2017, Big Bear got hit with the biggest snow storm the mountain had seen in the last past decade. It was crazy, cars and 4x4 trucks/Jeeps alike were stuck EVERYWHERE. It was absolute mayhem, there were no roads anymore at all, just tons of snow and ice all over the place. Somehow we managed not to get stuck and get find our way down the mountain in the dark but it took hours. It was mind blowing seeing so many Prius' and other cars that had no business whatsoever being in snow up on the mountain that day, like they actually thought they stood a chance. Saw many built 4x4's buried and unable to get free as well. That day it was so bad I don't think even chains would have helped much if you got into a bad spot...especially if they weren't already on your tires lol.

January 22nd? We were on the mountain too. It was awesome, but crazy.

yeah that was it haha, we were up there during the day and it was great but at night it started coming down hard. I tried helping this guy out that got his Altima stuck in a snowbank but I couldn't find a recovery point anywhere on his car, and he kept spinning his tires when I was looking in his wheel well despite me asking him not to so I just told him good luck and bailed. That was a crazy day. Learned how to snowboard that morning for the first time, don't think I'll ever see snow like that again but it was awesome.

Same, we ended up staying in a hotel room because I saw the stupidity coming off the mountain and said nope, not doing that.

Drove around that night to assist in recoveries and had a guy in a Civic who couldn’t make it to his cabin rental. Couldn’t find a hookup point as well and didn’t have traction boards at the time.

Had to drive off using the 38 because they closed the main road. It was a great trip.

We wanted to stay anyway but it truly wasn’t worth the risk. I didn’t have Cali Maps at the time so it was hard to find trails. Didn’t know the area too well and we were solo.

That was a wise idea...in hindsight we should have done the same but if I recall, it was a Sunday and I needed to be at work in the AM so we headed down around 7pm. Took a few hours to get down the mountain but once we got away from the city, there were less and less cars and we eventually found a big city truck plowing the highway downhill so we cruised behind him until we got low enough to switch back into 2wd and hit the freeway. Was a wild night indeed. I didn't know about Green Valley and those fire roads at the time or I may have tried those instead, but honestly with how much snow they were getting those fire roads may have been really dangerous
