I haven't, I've heard mixed things about it but with all the off-roading I do, the last thing I need is a way for even more dust to ruin my air filter. I did just recently switch to an AFE Pro-Dry one but still, I don't want to have to clean it all the time lol.

Also, I have an extended drivetrain warranty on my truck still and I don't need to give them a reason to deny me warranty work if I need it (knock on wood).

Not sure what a deck plate mod is. Only deck plates I know of are in the engine room on a Navy ship. I do have a Tech Deck I installed for my navigation system that's been a dream.

I have not done this mod but have read some experiences with it. Some older vet 1st Gen owners have actually threw it up on a dyno to see actual performance numbers ( @chris4x4 ) maybe he will chime in. If I remember correctly it gave a gain between 5-6hp.

With that said, 90% of all other guys who have done the mod say it does absolutely nothing other then giving a cool sound of horsepower at higher rpm's. its a big debate on the forum actually. @eon_blue makes a good point though concerning the air filter being more exposed as well if you wheel in dusty conditions a lot. Some throw in a extra filter while they wheel in these conditions and then switch back to there DD filter after. Or just put the deckplate 'cap/lid' on before you go out and just run it open around town. Not sure all this is worth it to make your truck sound 'cooler' if it actually does not produce any extra HP? It cost about 10$ bucks for a deck plate and about a hour of your time to mod it in though so it's a cheap change.

@YotaGurlIAm has the deck plate mod done to her truck. It's open during normal driving and she seals the airbox back up when off roading. It works great, you can really feel the difference with the increased airflow.

yeah I have it done, pros and cons though. I does help push a lot of air through, when I screw it back on the box I can really feel a difference with the truck, its sluggish. A lot of the time I forget to put it on when hitting dirt, its kind of a hassle to do every time. But I have a aFe Pro dry filter and its super simple to clean so its not a big deal when it gets dirty.. Overall, I love the extra 'power' it gives, just gotta remember to put the plate on when hitting dirt.....lol

How is the 'sound difference' with your truck when it's open?

I was asking about this mod about a year ago and most where saying "don't waste your time, its pointless" but then a few claim they definitely feel a difference with there butt dyno :D. Imo for $10 bucks, why not? If someone does not dig it just put the lid back on and the air box is back to stock. Thanks for the info @YotaGurlIAm.

Exactly! There is definitely a difference. After we took grapevine canyon down outta big bear I had it on, then when we hit highway 18 to get back up, the truck was NOT having it, (trying to climb 18) had to pull over take the plate off and bam, its like she could breathe again.

Glad you mentioned that. So I have also wondered about the performance difference it could offer for elevation changes. I am obviously always driving my rig up and down the hill from big bear to I.E. etc and can always feel a difference when I get down the hill with better throttle feel. So I would think running up in big bear and getting more air would help up here around town.

Yup, higher elevation=thinner air, therefore, open up that box & get some moar air!

Awesome thanks guys and girls! I think I might give it a try and if I end up not liking it I can always just get a new air box that isn't a big deal

You know the best way to force more air into your motor right?

    supercharger :gossip:

little more expensive than the deckplate mod though. Just a bit
