Prerunner here, don't want to hold you guys back from fun. We cruised by the valley today and it was packed, figured tomorrow might be better to cruise around (hoping most people have work tomorrow)

Bad decisions were made in Soda Lake today. That rig is looking at serious rust issues if he's even able to get out. I won't even try crossing that part of the Mojave after rain. In fact, I probably wouldn't try it till end of summer at this point.

Saw that too over on the SOS page. Was not a smart move to go off the trail like that, the trail itself through there was probably fine but that mud on either side is no joke. He said they were trying to turn around but somehow I doubt that...

That whole area is immensely corrosive. Bad decisions all around.

Makes me worried just having driven through there when it was dry, lol. But yeah with all that wet salty mud caked on your frame, no bueno.

I've never been out there, but I'd imagine there's signs on both ends saying something to the effect of "Do Not Enter If Dry Lake is Wet" or "Do Not Enter If There Has Been Recent Rains". Can anyone that has been out there confirm that?

There aren't any signs like that, at least none that I saw when I was out there a few weeks ago. We ran the entire Mojave trail from Laughlin, NV to the end near Barstow (Soda Lake is toward the end). There are a few signs along the way but the whole trail is about 140 miles long and without a detailed map or GPS, you could very likely go off-course.

There are actually little stone pyramids set up along the trail by others (I think) that serve as markers to let you know you're on the right path, that's about as good as it gets lol.

No signs to that effect but ita kinda common sense when you drive through the lake when its dry that one should never ever attempt to drive through even its just a tad wet. That thing is extremely unforgiving. And yes, those stacks of stones are markers to let you know you're on the correct path. That's some old school GPS right there. Crazy to imagine hundreds of years ago passing through on wagons going off a stories and stones. Should a wagon wheel break, death could likely ensue. I love learning about that type of history. That route is so awesome.

That'd interesting, a lot of places out in AZ/UT that have mud/clay roads like that have signs that specifically say "Road is impassable when wet" basically means "you're likely to get stuck even with 4WD". Being as close to that as it is to the Interstate and with the traffic it receives I would have assumed it had warnings somewhere.

There are lots of cairns out there, and some sign posts. I made it through Soda Dry Lake after the Christmas storms and it was passable, though cleaning the truck took quite a while. Most of the signs I saw just stated things like this (the sign below is at the western edge of the lake where the Rasor OHV Area ends). I would think that the driver would take a look at the trail and make the right decision on whether it's passable or not.

Somewhere, someone is getting emails from Jiffy Lube notifying them that they're past due for an oil change.
