This is the only "clean" part of my wiring.

My engine feels like it has a hundred feet of extra wire :(
I'd like to do a fuse block in the near future to pull a bunch of leads off the battery terminals. But I really need to clean up my excess wire from harness kits.

The fuse block is the way to go for sure. Try to get a marine rated one. Everything in all of my cars has the stock wiring untouched. Every time I add a new toy it gets its own circuit from the block. Messy wiring drives me nuts.

    http://www.powerstream.com/Wire_Size.htm

The link is a pretty good start on what you want to look out for and I'm pretty sure many of you already know this? I'm assuming?

Anyways, others things to take into consideration is the "outside ambient temperature" of where the wire is going to be, that is, in the surrounding environment. At least, that is how I remember it. For example, if the wire is allowed to only take so many amps it will start to get "hot" as it approaches its max amp rating and with that, the temp of that wire, if you will. So, if I remember right, if it is in a "hotter environment" and you are close to max amperage, then you would want to go to a slightly larger diameter wire to compensate for that heat. With that said, I'm pretty surrrrrrre that most of the time, this does not have to be taken into consideration when it comes to vehicles? For housing electrical? I would think... BUT... I don't know "housing code" or even know where to begin with that other than all I know that was just said.

So, with all of that said, I go up and/or down 1 gauge in wire size relative to what I would see. Typically I would go to a slightly bigger wire if I don't have the exact wire with whatever I'm working on. When designing, you ALWAYS WANT that "wiggle room" of some sort of +/- rating factor anyways!!! So, even going down 1 gauge in wire size should NOT be too much of a factor?! In other words, NOT good engineering practice to design something and use parts that are close to max spec of said design!!!:facepalm: You ALWAYS want, as much as possible, a compensation of a +/- rating factor to allow "extremes" (i.e. in either direction) when under "load", if you will.

Another quick example, just like a resistor, if you do NOT have the exact same resistor, the rule of thumb that "I" was taught was that it is okay to be within +/- 14% of what the "old" resistor was and you SHOULD still be within reason!!! The KEY WORD IS SHOULD!!! Now you have to take into consideration of what the circuit is for??? If the circuit is freq related somehow, well, you're kindof F'd at that point and need to get the exact or as close as possible of said resistor value!!! This is of course, again, you have no other choice at the time!!! Again, for example...

I don't know what else to say about the matter and I would have to go back a few hundred pages since I've last been on, LOL!!!

Now, back to ninja status!!! :spy:

Heck yeah, man. Righteous. Lets mob up together. Are you on the koh thread? Cell reception is garbage out there and locating people inside an area of 50k people is damn near impossible. Working on plans to get everyone together prior to rolling in.
