I'm down. Not sure about camping, but at least a day trip Saturday if there's some good wheeling included.

If you're looking for technical I dont know of any highly technical trails other than Diablo Drop off which is mild and the squeeze. I'm sure someone can chime in further. This is more of a situation to see something that I was 14 the last time it happened. Ill do split mountain, Diablo, and the surrounding exploring trails.

Sounds good to me. Not looking for super technical, but also not driving 2 hours just to watch flowers bloom. No offense to those who would, but I'd like to get my wheeling fix as well as check out this rare phenomenon. Let me know when and where.

I believe @Spvrtan is planning the same thing.

I believe those bushes are the PMV. Ecoterrorists have been doing "studies" on those for years from all the time I have been going to glamis to try and get more areas shutdown.

I was wondering about the fenced ones as well. It is possible that a higher concentration of germinating seeds may have been found there.

Fun fact about the milk vetch. Studies actually showed that ohvs were the only thing pollinating the PMV in the imperial valley, hence why they reopened all that acreage a few years back. I wnat tonsay it was something like 400,000 acres reopened.

I do remember that study. There were a few really good youtube videos on it.

If anyone is interested. I'll be going up to Big Bear Friday night and camping at a yellow post campsite overnight and wheeling Saturday. Anyone is more than welcome. I do plan on doing some of the little more challenging trails do keep that in mind. If anyone is interested, quote this post or PM me.

That sounds like something I would be down for if I did not do so much damage this past weekend.

Off the top of my head, I need new brake lines, tensioner pulley and bolt, coolant res, adjust steering assist ram, work on the front leaf spring packs, and I am sure there is a bunch more that I will need to address after this past weekend.

Shit happens. At least you didn't cement the trail to make it easier. Haha

Sliders are life savers. They should be high on the priority list for anybody who thinks they might spend any significant amount of time off road.

@goblue82, @stvstoy, yea, I'm going out Sunday to do a family-style trip of a little bit of everything; inclusive of: short hike or two (nothing longer than a mile), seeing the metal sculptures, looking for some of the bloom areas, visiting some scenic spots (Font's Point), rolling by Truckhaven park. That doesn't mean I won't be hitting trails though, if you're interested. It's mainly a day of hitting trails primarily but hitting things along the way. I plan on taking the family to Lower Coyote Canyon (short hike at the end of it), Calcite Mine, through Ocotillo Wells to get to Split Mountain, then to Fish Creek Wash (short hike to the Wind Caves), up Diablo drop off, through Arroyo Tapiado (and hit the mud caves real quick), and down Canyon Sin Nombre. Depending on how we do on time, I'd love to hit Sandstone Canyon. It's really the only "hard" trail in Split Mountain unless you count Pinyon Canyon, which is where The Squeeze and Heart Attack Hill are. If you haven't done the squeeze, it really is a squeeze. I didn't make it through in my FJ Cruiser a few years ago but that's only because I had negative offset wheels with wheel spacers and 35s (picture attached of the attempt) -- I put some fat dents and scratches on the passenger side.
