but but but... the airaid sounds cool when I rev it. That should be worth something? LOL. The truck already had it on when I bought it so I just left it on but now it's time to change it back!

A WHILE back I had heard something about Napa paper filters? I think I'll just go with OEM and call it a day.

My upcoming trip to Laughlin via the Mojave Rd had me watching youtube which lead me to the water crossing videos. The only thinking I could think of is my exposed filter sucking in all that water with a big gulp straw.

Is that why they put the snorkel on the exhaust? Kind of like when cows drown through the back siphon? Gotta snorkel the exit, not only the entrance.

Mostly for dust and dirt. I havent changed my air filter since I got one a couple months ago. Before the snorkel I would need a new one once or twice a month. I hit the dirt a lot too. Also feels like the exhaust sounds better. I'm so happy with the snorkel.

Don't need an exhaust snorkel. If the trucks running water won't go in there.

Well mine mostly see dust and dirt sooo YEP! That's what I use it for! All jokes aside, its nice to have when I do find water. I haven't had my truck in anything too deep before....

Not necessarily true. If the exhaust is deep enough and the Tom's are low it will stall the engine

I've noticed the same thing too. My filter has stayed surprisingly clean longer.

The exhaust snorkel is more for properly built trucks for deep water fording ie; military humvees and other tactical vehicles they have. The engine and the entire electrical system is built for water submergtion. I went through several deep water fording with the humvees and other bigger trucks. it's quite a hoot at 5' deep of water

So our Tacomas wouldn't benefit from a exhaust snorkel.

Let me know. I cant wait to hit the trails in this area.
Hope you can make it. Don't let the winch hold you up. As long as one of us has one we'll be fine. I told Alex about it so hopefully he comes too. I'm sure he'll try after I told him how difficult Dusy Ershim Trail is. The stuff I read about that trail is getting me pumped!:militarypress:
Dang man that sucks. Its really hard for me to take time off for the next couple months cause I am running a huge project right now. I lined this up with a holiday weekend to help me get the time approved. I'll roll up to that area on a weekend to scout it if you wanna check it out. There are so many trails.

Yea I'm definitely down for that... throwing in my gears and locker soon so I'll break them in fast and I'll be good to go.

I'm going to plan on joining up on Wednesday evening after work. I'll throw in the time off request with work today but who knows what will change between now and then to allow me to take the time off. Also before then, I'll bring down some of my camping gear from Utah.

And I can't stop looking up pictures and info on the Dusy-Ershim trail. This trail looks like a bear. If we end up doing this trail, I'll be bringing every part possible to rebuild my truck on the trail. lol

"30-mile trail is slow-speed rock crawling" "Be prepared for breakdowns" "I have done the Rubicon and Fordyce trail many times. This trail is a lot tougher" I may have to ride shotgun with someone on this trail. Looks beast!

I'm sure one of us could give @stvstoy a ride. I'll need a spotter. lol

"Severe conditions. Extreme caution recommended. Impassable by stock vehicles. Winching required. Trail building necessary. May be impassable. Impassable under anything but ideal conditions. Vehicle damage probable. Personal injury possible. Extreme caution necessary."

UPDATE May 17, 2017: trailsoffroad.com spoke to the local District Ranger Office today, and they indicated the trail may not be accessible this year (2017) due to the snowpack. They are hoping to open the trail 2-3 weeks late if the melt continues at the current rate. Please check often for updates and create alternate plans if you plan on running the Dusy-Ershim this Summer

The trail is open August 1st - Oct 31st. So it may just open up in time for us to hit the trail. Also with all the run off, I'm sure it will be rutted out like crazy.

We have done hard stuff like this. This is just long sections of it in a very secluded area. Check out this link. I signed up for the site real quick so I could scroll thru the whole page. I am still doing research on this trail. So I am not familiar with any of the obstacles yet. I know our trucks are capable of this trail. No doubt this will be a serious trail but this is exactly what I have been building my truck for.
If it ends up you guys want to do up trip up to this area but Dusy Ershim doesnt work out for the group we'll just hit up Mirror or Swamp Lake. Still hard trails. Dusy Ershim,Mirror, and Swamp trails are all pretty secluded and are difficult. I'm down for any of them.
