I was going to order the old man emu kit in a month or two but as i was driving around my property today my front shock snapped. Luckily i can borrow some money to order the kit now. Just wondering who i should go through. Ive heard good things about both companies but figured id ask for some opinions about them.

Also was wondering what spring i should go with up front. Cant really find much info on what spring to use on a 05 4x4 4cyl access cab. Any input would be much appreciated.

Edit: i was wanting to get around 2.75" of lift in front. Really want it to be level

Headstrong is much closer to you in SoCal with free shipping, I'd go with them.

Wheelers is a great company too but I believe shipping will cost you if you're out of state

Also, call Headstrong before you order and ask Marie (she'll be the one you talk to) about the right springs/kit for your truck...she is incredibly helpful with that kind of stuff.

Well HS will still be free but I don't know how fast it would get to you compared to Wheelers since they're not far in Oregon. But I believe Wheelers still charges for shipping, I could be wrong

A few additions to make me feel cool.
I have dealt with both and like both very much. Due to your location I would stick with Marie at Headstrong. One thing I like about wheelers is being able to get the front shocks and springs pre-assembled but I would guess headstrong offers the same. I would say 885 coils but someone with a setup closer to yours might chime in.

yeah HS offers the same service, they charge for it but I'm sure Wheeler's does too.

Thats a good question...I didn't notice it was a 5100. I had those on my 04 and ran them hard for a year, they never let me down (other than having their limitations as a standard shock). Not common to see them break like that, unless maybe they were maxed out on the lift setting and maybe it added more stress. Or possibly lift spacers?

Stickers AND candy? Oh man that might be the deciding factor right there haha

I guess ill just have to call around today. The strut assembly wont matter im gonna have to take it to a shop any how cause all my tools are down in san diego. I am in a bit of a time crunch so shipping time might change who i go through. But free shipping does sound good haha

You really should be fine. Ive beat the fuck out of my truck and neglected lots of work on it. Which results to failures like this. 100% my fault and not the 5100's.

Just don't run spacers and you should be good...5100s are good shocks for the money, I ran mine hard for awhile and still have them as backups.

Just to be clear on my end i dont have spacers. Just old and under maintained. The 5100's treated me well.

I looked at both to purchase Kings, Total Chaos UCAs etc... ended up going with Wheelers to save 10% in taxes.

Ok got another question, which should i go with for the front 90000's or 90021's? Soft ride sounds nice, but how soft are they?

@HeadStrong Off-Road all day long. Wheeler's can't hold a candle to them and Marie has never given me false info.
